Spouse Visa, Healthcare system, Children's education, tax Info

Priyanka Baddi

Hi ,

Greetings from Priyanka :)

Can someone please help me share the knowledge about following things -

1. Is a spouse allowed to work Full time/ part time in Netherlands on Dependent visa ? Is there any restriction for no. of work hours, salary, etc?

2. How is the healthcare system for Foreigners / expats working in NL, means If I visit a Public Hospital will they charge me nominal like the NL Citizens or high charges like private hospital for expats?

3. How is the children's education ? Is it expensive or free ?

4. How much is the tax percentage for an expat from India if he is working as a Software engineer with 6 years of experience and minimum salary for survival?

Many thanks for answering the above questions!

Warm regards,
Priyanka.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I love easy questions.

1.آ  Yes, you can work on a family visa.

2.آ  Everyone pays Health Insurance; circa 150 euro p/month p/person, children are included in parents policy (free).آ  The cover is for GP and hospital, not specialists or prescriptions or dentist, you can increase your cover (pay more) to cover those extras.

3.آ  Public schools are free and are (IMO) of a very high standard; they teach in Dutch only.

4.آ  Tax is complicated in Holland, especially for expats.آ  If the expat taxpayer has been given a skilled migrant visa, then he/she may qualify for the 30% tax ruling (which is a major benefit); further, in Holland, you pay income tax, plus what is known as social taxes.آ  To answer your specific question; it depends how much you earn; this is a to an online tax calculator so you can work it out for yourself.آ  If your tax affairs are likely to be complicated (i.e. overseas income/property etc), my advice is to speak to a Dutch tax-expert.

If you have any further specific questions, please come back to us.

Hope this helps.

Hi Cynic,

Thanks for your swift response. Really appreciate it.

Just to reconfirm are you sure a spouse visa holder can work in NL without acquiring a Work permit ? As from what I googled they said me cannot work for 3 years after shifting to NL, or need to acquire work permit from the Gov after the company sponsor offer letter, etc

Many Best!
Priyanka.

Hi again.

As a rule, family members receive the same work permit authorisation as the sponsoring relative.آ  The only thing I can think of that would change that was if your partner (sponsor) only had a temporary work permit with a specific end date.

If you wish to hear this from an authoritative source, then the IND has a Twitter feed where you can ask general questions; this will take you there.

Hope this helps.
