Internet / broadband supplier in Yuper recommendations please?

knobworx

Hey all, as per the title, I need some help with broadband supplier to the village of Yuper.

Ideally something that I may be able to sort out online whilst still in the UK and finalise when we return to BG in a few weeks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated with this and many thanks in advance!

Not much chance of arranging it remotely - BG is the kingdom of "demand to see your ID at every possible opportunity", the only way you could manage it would be if you gave someone the ever-popular POA (after presenting your ID to a notary, of course 😎)

Best way to check who offers internet access is to ask a neighbour - or check the Big Three's coverage maps.

Has anyone tried this.... I am also considering taking a 4G / 5G router over to BG with me and then getting a bulgarian pay as you go sim with plenty of data etc and doing it that way. I have had an online chat with A1 and Bullsat and Yuper is a bit hit and miss regarding wired internet with providers mainly offering a 4g or 5g service.

Are there any local ISPs in the neighborhood? A1 is pretty useless where our village house is but the local ISP is very good.

Alternatively, you could try Starlink.

I don't really know to be honest if there are any local providers, There is one in Slivo Pole but when we enquired in June the said the dont cover Yuper. That could be due to Slivo Pole coming under the Ruse municipality and Yuper being in the Razgrad municipality?

My only issue with star link is simply the price. Seems quite expensive?

There might be a local supplier, your neighbours/village shop should be able to tell you. Our village has fibre to our house, so that's great. But otherwise I reckon mobile is the way to go as Bulgaria has coverage pretty much everywhere (but mostly 4G except in more populated zones). I think Yettel, A1, Vivacom all do unmetered mobile data subscriptions. I have a MiFi box and a couple of PAYG data SIMs as a backup, but I've rarely used it.

I've found mobile reception can be patchy: in our village, as I mentioned, the local ISP supplies good internet and TV service (with the added bonus that you can rewire the incoming TV cable to feed multiple sets 😉). However, mobile reception is cr*p and in most of the rooms there is no usable signal; it's the same in the whole village, which is by no means remote and has c2,000 inhabitants (and mains sewage).

Starlink isn't particularly cheap: iirc c500 leva for the hardware and c95/month. It all depends on what having an internet connection that costs 3 leva a day to run is worth to you. There are drawbacks to living in cheap places out in the sticks....😎

We use the local supplier. So much cheaper than the UK

I don't think our village has a local supplier. Mobile seems generally good but drops out now and then. I haven't had major problems when visiting, but my neighbour often Vibers me to complain about "terrible internet".

I'll be working from home and hubby live streams quite a bit of TV. so we may need more reliable internet. 95 BGN/month is less than what we currently pay BT. But it will stick in my craw to increase Elon Musk's profits.

See if your village is listed on this site, it shows the available providers.

Thanks for the link. It appears it's just the usual providers in our area.
