BBC radio 4 gone

Kath948381

I didn't pay much if any attention to the rumour that this was going to change because I didn't think changes would affect me here in Bulgaria but now neither of my radios are working and husband's at  a loss about what to do. Help!!!

It seems to be still available:

Thank you Jimj I've just told my husband about your message.

Kath948381

Well the BBC Radio4 isn't on my radios but thanks to Jimj and my husband's it's on an old tablet of mine so I can take in down to the kitchen tomorrow while I have my breakfast. If anyone's got any ideas on how to get it back onto my radios I'd be very grateful. Being an old biddie I'm no good with tech .

Kath, unless your radios are DAB, I don't think you can get it on a radio outside the UK anymore. It seems ordinary AM and FM channels are now UK only, and the rest of the world is digital only.

DAB radios are digital, so they may be able to pick it up, or you need to keep accessing it online either via the BBC website or the app if you have a smartphone or tablet that can use it.

I did a post about this back in July > /en/forum/europe/b … he-uk.html

Just download , problem solved. There is even an app on smart TVs.

You can still get it on Amazon Alexa.

janemulberry

Unfortunately that won't work on older non-digital radios, which I think is what Kath may be asking.

Kath948381

My radios where brought over from the UK because they are Dab but as I'm an old biddie I'll get younger husband to do what has been recommended. Thank you

Meanwhile he's tuned the TV on to BBC sounds so I'm able to listen.  I always had radios rather than TV . I did have a TV in the UK but really only ever watched the news. So I've never seen a lot of TV other people watched. When my parents split up we didn't have a TV but I don't think I was the only one in my secondary school.

@Kath948381

Sorry - being an Old Codger no longer counts as an excuse for the fairer sex to palm their computer/tech problems off onto some unsuspecting bloke... 😎

'Er Indoors is a lot younger than Yours Truly, is an electronic engineer and Professor of Telecommunications, has represented the country on various EU Technical Committees and many international conferences, and moonlighted as a designer of computerised security systems - but whenever she gets a new computer or smartphone it mysteriously appears on my desk to be set up. 🤓

There's clearly some sneaky feminist agenda at work here when you lot play the "helpless female" card so frequently.... 😎

@JimJ

My dad at 85, has an iPhone and loves WhatsApp.

Kath948381

Oi Jimj that's my excuse and I'm sticking by it mainly because it's true. I've never been keen on the TV . Anyway husband's just looked at cimCat at information and it seems we will be getting an Alexa .

Kath948381

Sorry SimCity aT, got your name wrong.

JimJ

@SimCityAT

I have to admit that you'd never catch me buying anything with a picture of some second-hand fruit emblazoned on it. 😎

That said, I do have a couple of antique iPads which were given to me by a client a decade ago..one still works as a backup sat-nav.

SimCityAT

@JimJ

He has an iPad and an Apple desktop computer, as they all connect together. I think he is more clued up with tchnology  than me these days, even his printer has its own email address so got rid of his fax machine. Myself I'm happy with Android and Windows on my laptop.

I do like my Alexa though, it turns on and off my lights, tells me the weather, shopping list, the radio. I can set reminders and alarm clocks. It recognis my voice and my wifes. Speaks to us in German and English dependiing who speaks to it.

SimCityAT

Oh, I forgot to say, Alexa also tells you when your Amazon package is being sent and about to arrive. Which I find very useful.

Kath948381

I don't have stuff delivered to me but thanks for the info

JimJ

Oh, I forgot to say, Alexa also tells you when your Amazon package is being sent and about to arrive. Which I find very useful. - @SimCityAT

Not much use here, I suspect. Amazon DE packages invariably DON'T turn up at the time, or even on the day, they're supposed to! They're processed by FAN and delivered by Ekont - but literally every time we get a message from FAN telling us that the "delivery attempt was unsuccessful", even though the attempt never happened, and the package will turn up a day or two later...🙄

Kath948381

Well we've been on the bus to Burgas to today and bought a couple of Alexa's which husband has managed to tune in. So now I can hear radio4 again in my house.

Kath948381

My house? Our house. Thats what you get after living here alone for a long time.

Kath948381

Alex's doing ok

SimCityAT

Alex's doing ok - @Kath948381

Good to hear, Kath. Have you had a good play with it? Asked it the time, what the weather will be for the week?

Kath948381

Ok will do

JimJ

@SimCityAT

My blessed PC and smartphone insist on forcing that information on me, regardless of whether I've asked or if I even care.... 😎
