Using the 6 month visa extensions for doing business

eswarchuk

Hello,
Is it allowed to own/run a business if you just have a 6 month tourist visa?
IF yes, is it recommended to just keep extending the 6 month visa?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

Cheers,
Eswar

Hi, I am not an expert but
First, in Mexico there is no such thing as an 6 months visa extension
Secondly, normally to work LEGALLY you need a confirmed job offer and the employer usually gets the Visa requirements filled in on your behalf.
Third, to created your personal business you shall need legal help.

As a reference, here is the link to the Mexican embassy in Canada, but all request as to start with the consulate in the area were you live. As a tourist you can't stay more than 180 days in Mexico, also the in-out, are all computerized since a few years now.

The Hacienda will not give you a license to run a business without the permission from Migration (INM). INM will not give you permission on a Tourist Permit. Go to the nearest Mexican consulate or the embassy and ask particulars as rules change all the time.

Hello Joaquinx,
I already called the embassy in Stockholm. They need the details of the company etc to apply for a business visa. I will first come to Mexico on the tourist visa. I was wondering if I have to go back to Sweden to apply for a business visa if I find some business that I would like to buy or if could be done locally...

Totally illegal.  You need a resident visa with permission to work which you get in your home country at a Mexican consulate

Agree, also to many foreigners start businesses illegally and not pay income tax.
You must register also to the RFC  (taxation department = IRS or Revenue Canada) if you have a business, if you work, buy/sell a house, rent a part of your house, open a bank account.

The above was confirmed to me buy the RFC ombudsman no later then last week, no need to register if you are a non working  (pensionados) permanent resident and your pensions are deposited in your home country, have and use your foreign debit and credit cards and that there a fiscal treaty between Mexico and your home country.
Here is the link to the RFC ombudsman and  the RFC.

The next link is the fiscal treaties-conventions between Mexico and various countries, can't see a treaty with Sweden (may I suggest you call your home country taxation office). If no treaty then you must register to the RFC and pay taxes on all your world income.

Adios, GyC.
