New permenant resident stuck in USA

jazzpaz

I'm so frustrated! I just got my permanent residency to live in Mexico, and I can’t drive into the country in my Texas-plated car to select a new home. My wife is a temporary citizen, but she doesn’t drive.

I’m willing to go buy a car in Mexico, but I can’t drive there to do that.

The representative at the Mexican consulate in Houston Banjercito told me to declare myself to be a tourist at the border, but that will invalidate my permanent residency status, and I will have to start the entire process all over.

Does anyone have any remedies to offer me?

I had the same problem when I was granted permanent residency a few years back. I flew to Mexico, bought a car, and put it at a friend's house, returned to the states, then paid a Mexican couple to drive me and 2 dogs to Mexico, along with my belongings. Once I got to Mexico, I had a car. But, you can always just wait, and buy one when you get here.

That's great that you were able to work that out!

I'm moving from Houston, Texas to Saltillo, Coahuila. There is no flight that connects these locations, but I'm willing to sell my car here and buy one in Saltillo when I get there.

I've tried so hard to hire a driver to get me to Mexico, but no one will help me. Everyone's afraid of getting there and not being to reenter the USA. I'm talking about my friends/acquaintences I trust, native-born American citizens with passports and familiarity with international travel.

I don't think their fears are realistic (until I recieved my new status I was back and forth repeatedly with no problems at all) but someone is successfully inflaming people with paranoia and terror. I'm stuck.

Yeah, I know what you mean about inflaming people with paranoia and terror. It's horrible, and the reason we moved to Mexico, where we are MUCH happier!!!!

I hired professionals [Mexicans, coming from Mexico] to move me, my dogs, and my household. Yes, it cost more, but they know what they are doing, know the laws, and can [hopefully] freely cross the border. You can find pro movers that will move you to Mexico by researching online. Then buy a vehicle once here. Good luck ! It'll work out.
