Best place to live Malta

MRAP

Hi all,

Me and my family consisting of my wife, a baby (4 months) and our son (2 years) will be moving to Malta in April. We are looking at the right location for us and I have considered Mellieha to be the best spot so far but I am having trouble finding an english speaking day care in the area. Can anybody here recommend something?

Also, we are very open to other suggestions for areas to move to. I will be working from home so no need to be close to any particular city. Here are our requirements and interests:

1 Great day care :)
2 Quiet and kids friendly area
3 Friendly people
4 Nice restaurants
5 Diving & spearfishing

Budget: €3-4.000 for a family villa.

Thanks for all the good reading in here!

One thing to consider about Mellieha is that everything's either up- or downhill - not too great with a baby stroller :) And the narrow and really busy main street (Triq Gorg Borg), where ALL the buses go through, is all but child/stroller friendly.

If you find a villa in the Santa Maria area of Mellieha, it will certainly be more quiet and child friendly, but school, day care, shops etc are all up on the hill around the main street.

And in winter, Mellieha is pretty much dead, whereas in summer, all the Maltese come to live in their garages for 2 months.

We lived in Mellieha this summer, I liked it, but there are things that get a bit tricky, especially with (little) children.

If I had the choice, I think I'd look more closely at the south, particularly Marsaskala - seems rather child friendly and good for families.

While Mellieha is lovely, I suggest you look for something in Tal-Ibragg / Madliena / High Ridge as these places are much more central. They are 5-10 mins away from St Julians by car where you can find many restaurants and possibly go diving.

Thank you both for your swift replies and suggestions

I see that Mellieha is more of a vacation destination so I will reconsider on the location. I will definitely have a look at Marsascala and Madliena but we actually prefer less central, quiet areas with nice restaurants and proximity to a good day care.

I don't know from own experience but have read here on this site that Marsaskala has rather good day care centres. Just search the forum a bit and you'll find the posts.

I don't know anyone in Madliena or High Ridge - have walked through, and it looked nice and rather posh, but I don't know if it would be that family friendly... I don't think my family would be happy there, but thern again, our budget is much lower than yours ;)
