Remigration as a foreigner (expat) to Hungary

cdw057

In a way I miss Hungary quite a bit and perhaps I should not have left, but what is done is done (and I am not unhappy in Turkey at all).

I think it is easy (as EU (Dutch passport holders)) to come back.

What I miss from Hungary

-Quiet (of course I do not even consider living in Budapest and alike)

-The friendly people (much more than in for example The Netherlands)

-Flexibilty (if paid for), home delivery of meat and wine (and whisky) during Covid was a good discovery

-Friendly neighbours (but I suppose that is luck)

-I play chess and the local club welcomed me and my wife with compassion and love (even Chrismas and Easter cards)

-Bureaucracy is easy (even if people complain)

-Virtually no crime (in smaller towns and villages)

-Still cheap (even if people complain)

-... many more postive things to address

Negative

-Language I manage to say Jonapot

-Lack of (good) restaurants

-In our case the garden was far too big

-Public transport

-....

Where I now live (Turkey) there are also drawbacks

Positive

-Cheaper even more than Hungary

-Restaurants around (many)

-Supermarkets (in walking distance (for my wife as I have some difficulties)

-Cigarettes are VERY cheap

-Quiet (even if only 240 m from the beach)

-Internet is fine and honestly good

-...

Negative

-Bureaucracy, rules change every single month

-We bought a duplex (big mistake as my legs are not working properly (at the time we bought they did))

-People are too commercial (Restaurants, hospital, ...)

-In winter there is a lot of rain (perhaps you can see in our area (Alanya) there is more rain the year then in Hungary (but in summer san be really hot though)

Hasn't rained for weeks here.  It's a bit concerning.  I doubt we'll have much snow either this year.

Interesting.

I suppose if you move back, because of your walking disability, edge of town could be better for you than a small village.

It sounds like you want to return?
