Hey adam_li
I think the moon cake of Windsor Plaza Hotel is very good. They are delicious. But its also a bit expensive.
Maybe you can try some others brand like: Kinh Do, Dong Khanh
OR you can try Sai Gon Givral.

Also, they have 2 type of moon cake.
One is baked moon cake

And one is non-baked mooncake

And lately, some people try to creative some new type of mooncake, like mooncake made of jelly.
Good luck to you

As far Mooncakes go.....don't judge a book by it's cover. Cakes were not meant to be heavier than rocks. It's too bad they don't put as much effort into the taste as they do the appearance.

Moon cakes are the traditional treats of Mid-Autumn Festivals.
Many suppliers will do promotion a month before the Mid-Autumn Festivals.

I think you should buy one and try. It tastes really good!:)

felicitas.89

Yes, the ice-cream moon cake is fantastic.
Its not really moon-cake.
We just have it at here a few years ago.
And its more expensive than traditional moon-cake.
If this is the first time u eat moon-cake, i think you should buy all type of them
Do u want to go to buy it with me? ^^

I myself dont like mooncake but God! I often get it every year as present. What did I after receving it? I did hand it to other friends or my causins.

But last night it was strange! It was a very first time that I stopped by a mooncake store (Phan Dinh Phung St, Phu Nhuan Dist) to buy 3. lol. and you know what! we opened one ( without egg/non baked) right away at the store and ate deliciously. God! I swear it was so good! Lov it! and other 2 I gave to my sweetheart!
Zummy!

I'm usually not a fan of mooncakes in VN, but this year I took the step to taste them, since I was asked to send some over to overseas relatives. I've tasted over 5 different brands and my favorite mooncakes is 'Thập cẩm, gà quay' from Brodard. I believe this is translated as 'mixed ingredients and grilled chicken'

Hi Dylan, that's the mix favors?
It also looks good! :)

My final decision is to try the Windsor Plaza Hotel's moon cakes as much as i can XD.

Anyone joining me to share?? :)

Brodard makes very good moon cake. I like the lotus paste and salted eggs one. The expensive one is added with roasted chicken and shark fins which I don't like. Don't be trapped for those. They got the macha one (new) quite good too. Uhmm,,, gotta buy more.

akxiuna

i have tried Kinh Do, it's too sweet in my opinion

no real brands to recommend yet but i hear from locals that those made indoors and sold within the neighborhood are the best

@vicci: fyi, mooncake is the way to celebrate our Mid-Autumm festival just like Western people have turkey for Thanksgiving. I believe it originates from China. People give the others mooncake as a way to show respect and friendliness. The egg yolk at the centre of the cake represent the full moon. According to our ancestor,August 15th of Chinese calendar is the best time to watch the moon as it's at the roundest, fullest, brightest state. That's what I've been told by grandma :)
