Maybe stick to the Vietnam official government website, instead of Youtube for your information?

Neither. It's conjecture.😉

Rest assured, when/if a Vietnam "retirement visa" becomes a reality, you'll hear about here in the forum.

This guy has a lot of helpful information about Vietnam but uses a lot of clickbait titles to grab attention. Its part of the game with youtube so I get it. I do watch his videos regularly though. I would also caution against using his legal services. Just personal experience.

Another dubious link, similar to when you posted the direct link to a scam visa agent.

By posting the link instead of simply asking the question, you end up promoting what is essentially click bait.

If you watched the entire video you'd know that he finally admits it's all conjecture at this point, based on the government actively considering the issue BUT WITHOUT HAVING CHANGED ANY REGULATIONS OR LAWS.

Also, it's worth mentioning why this wouldn't necessarily be good news.

Under the current system of investor visas and associated TRCs {temporary resident cards) a person invests a certain amount of money in order to receive the visa that then allows them to apply for the TRC.

Because it's an investment, it can lose value, but it can also gain value or retain its value without change.

Currently a 3-year TRC can be obtained with a â‚«3 billion Vietnam dong investment.

Under one proposal that is being floated, a person could BUY a TRC of significant length for â‚«5 billion Vietnam dong.

That money would then be gone.

It wouldn't be a system where you can put a certain amount of money on deposit to obtain and guarantee your visa, ALTHOUGH THAT IDEA IS ALSO BEING DISCUSSED.

But I'm just talking about one proposal amongst many that are being floated in the news.

If Visa laws were sausages, this would be messiest, nastiest part of the process.

So the bottom line is 🚫 NO 🚫, it's not real, and it's not a joke, it's just misleading click bait.

I think it's worth noting that there is a common misconception about the communist government of Vietnam.

Foreigners seem to think that the Communist party is monolithic and everyone marches in lockstep with each other.

That's actually a fair perception, once laws have been passed and enacted.

But the process that the government goes through in order to establish new laws and regulations is really quite open and encouraging of discussion and debate.

There are definitely conservative and liberal factions in the Congress.

They have strong opinions and feelings about the direction the country should be taking on myriad issues.

This is an example of the head of the government calling on the Congress to have open debate about possible long-term visa solutions, so the news can be very messy and difficult to summarize concretely.

However, once formal recommendations have been submitted and voted upon and enacted into law, there will be no deviation from the party line.

As Aidan has indicated, when the process reaches that point, you will definitely hear about it here in the forum.
