Did Thailand change the name of ETA authorization to TDAC ?

brerono345

hallo everyone...

sorry if I'm being ignorant, but last year I was told Thailand will be adding ETA authorization like the E.U. and now I'm reading that it is called TDAC and you must be tax 300 baht during submission.

then I'm seeing on Facebook many warnings about scams, so I don't know which story to believe and which website I'm supposed to fill the information and pay the tax?? thank u

thank you sir! if this helps anyone else I got this from my mate:

In the context of Thailand travel, TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card) and ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) are distinct systems. The TDAC is a digital form replacing the previous paper TM6 arrival card, while the ETA is a separate authorization for visa-exempt travelers. The ETA has been delayed, and the TDAC is now in effect.

TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card):

  1. Purpose: Digital replacement for the paper-based TM6 arrival/departure card.
  2. Requirement: Mandatory for all non-Thai nationals entering Thailand by air, land, or sea.
  3. How it works: Travelers fill out the digital form online before arrival, providing personal and travel information.
  4. Timing: Must be completed within 3 days before arrival.
  5. Cost: The TDAC is free to obtain.

ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization):

  1. Purpose: To screen visa-exempt travelers before they arrive in Thailand.
  2. Status: The ETA system's implementation has been delayed.
  3. Relationship to TDAC: The ETA is separate from the TDAC and not yet in effect.

In essence:

  1. The TDAC streamlines the immigration process by digitizing the arrival card.
  2. The ETA, once implemented, will be a pre-travel authorization for visa-exempt travelers, similar to systems used in other countries.
  3. Currently, only the TDAC is mandatory for entry into Thailand.

so apparently ETA is not happening for now.

only TDAC required (summer 2025) but might change later, and it is Free, no 300 baht tax.

seems 300 baht tax is delayed to 2026, hopefully they cancel the terrible idea...
