Singapore Salary/EP query

tele27

Hi All,

I am considering relocating to Singapore from Amsterdam. I have done my research but to get a first hand opinion,

1. What is people take on 10k as gross salary for a couple to live
2. Has anyone in the forum recently relocated to Singapore from outside with a new EP
3. Any experience in the forum of the latest process updated from Q420 and Q121

Thanks

Are you sure you can find a job that pay this much?
Getting an EP has never been more difficult than now. You need niche skills that are not available in Singapore, and also related work experience to have a chance. The pandemic-related economic situation has caused far more foreigners to lose their job than newones to come here.
S$10k is an above average income for a couple - although you as a foreigner would face many expenses that locals do not have to pay (e.g. rent).
This being one of the most expensive places on earth, you will be o.k., but not be able to afford a life of luxuries with S$10k: e.g. renting a private apartment costs S$3000-7000/month, or double that with good facilities and in a convenient location, a leased car is S$1500-3000/month (a bought one costs at least S$100000), a golf club membership around S$2000/year - AFTER you paid the initial fee of S$80000 on average. If you decide to have a kid, budget S$10000 for the birth (not covered by health insurances here) and S$1500/month for kindergarten or school. On the other hand, informal meals at hawker centres are cheap (and good!) at S$5-7/person (as long as you forgo any alcoholic drinks) and having a maid (full-time, live-in household helper) affordable at S$1200-1500/month (plus a room in your apartment).

Thanks a ton for that,

To just address a few pointers you mentioned,

1. I already have a job offer but am considering negotiating upwards to 13k before signing
1.1 I don’t need a car or golf clubs, I’ve considered eating out , travel to other Asian countries and a basic gym membership
2. The company has already gone through the process of posting the job as per MOM rules - actually they only got 32 applicants, and none matching my experience
3. I have 9 years of relevant experience, have a higher degree (MBA) and speak 4 languages

Counting on these points to help me stand out a bit

Appreciate any further comments,

Thanks
