Buy and sell a used car in Beijing

Dear all,

We are moving this summer from Europe to Beijing. We are considering buying a new car in Europe and ship it to China or as an alternative buy a used car in Beijing.

Is it easy to find a second hand SUV (foreign brand) with automatic transmission in Beijing, preferably with 7 seats?

I heard that due to the new regulation (lottery for new number plates) it has become very difficult to sell your car again when leaving the country.聽 And taking it with you when leaving might be impossible because of the different specifications of Chinese cars.

Any comments or advice regarding this topic would be very much appreciated.

not only has it become hard to buy and sell a car because of the lottery system you cannot drive on an international license. You will need to take a (theory) test and get a Chinese license.

The Beijing roads are congested and most drivers seem to think that they are the sole king of the road.

Most expats hire a car w/driver.
