On some days you can not drive your car? JW

Manlin

@ JW correct.

In order to reduce the traffic congestion prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympics the Beijing government adopted a one day yes, one day no drive policy. Post Olympics this was changed to one day per week No Drive Day. It currently alternates every 13 weeks and is based on the last digit of your car's number plate.

Good idea and what other plans to help traffic? How about build wider more efficient roads?

Manlin

Increased Parking charges. A few year ago the norm was 2RMB/hour. The downtown parking charges have been raised again and are currently 10RMB for the first hour and then 15 RMB for any additional hours.

Added extra subway lines.

Limited the number of car sales per month. You literally have to win a lottery in order to get a new number plate. No number plate cannot drive.

Interesting situation. Thanks for the info, JW
