Things in Tripoli are quite different than in Dubai - not really comparable to be honest.  Dubai is much more cosmopolitan than Tripoli.  The Green Square is not much more than a seaside square in any other city.

You can purchase electronics here quite easily.  Most name brands are available and the prices are reasonable.

There are good computer and electronics dealers on the 4th floor of the Tuesday Mall and also the ground floor of Al-Fatah Tower, although the prices are on the steep side.

For more general electronics and white goods, try any of the many stores on Gurji Road - right hand side as you drive out of town.

and maybe there are any Arabic courses for the expats? Wouldn't like to try a private teacher rather prefer learning in a group.

Berlitz has Arabic classes, I've heard they have private tuition and groups. I thinki i'll try the Arabic, at work people speak arabic and it bothers me that i don't understand them.

i contacted them and they can help me learn libyan dialect and fusha ( the classical arabic) during the same course, it works great for me, they emphasize on conversation a lot.
