Tripoli is it currently safe for westerners? by LeighBrown_13

Hi, I'm considering a move to Tripoli. Is it currently safe for westerners to move about the city during the day? Is it necessary to live in a secure compound? What is the best suburb to live for an expat? Thanks for your feedback.

Flasher

It is not safe to travel anywhere. Violent car-jackings resulting in shooting are on the increase, for both locals and expats. In the evenings you can hear the sound of heavy gunfire in the distance plus there are fireworks going off all the time ... Read More

No HHH events in Tripoli currently, most members are yet to return. People don't seem to understand that there is still a security threat here. If there was going to be a gathering of expats, the last thing you'd want is to see it advertised on the ... Read More

It is a nice comfortable hotel. Rooms are very nice, food is good but you will get bored with it after a week. Some prefer the Radisson, some the Corinthia, some the Waddan, there's not much between the four of them to be honest. Personally I prefer ... Read More

The biggest issue in Tripoli right now is boredom, there isn't exactly a massive social scene at the moment, you're as well to come prepared. Skype works fine without the video, Facetime is usually OK Read More
