You and your partner need to meet the subsistence requirements. As sctld said, if you have enough money or are working and contributing, they are unlikely to reject you. I haven't worked since moving to Norway, but was quickly granted residency as ... Read More

Hi, when settling in a new country, working parents are mostly concerned about finding child care services for their children. What can you share with us about the child care system in Bergen ? How much is daycare in Bergen? Is the staff ...

Tammy

Some do and some don't. AFAIK the kommune ones only open in the school term. I use a private Barnehage (Vappus) and last year ours was open all summer, but this year they are closing for two weeks in July. Read More

what women wear at work? by MitraMor

Hi everybody, I am moving to Bergen in January and I can use some advise about what women wear at office. I mean it is OK to wear heels or high heels boots at work? Do they wear informal or formal clothes? Honestly, I have to buy lots of clothes ...

Tammy

In general it does seem to be less formal here than other places. But, if you have a lot of client contact, you will still need to be professionally dressed. It might be worth checking with the specific company, as it can vary. Read More

Hi, I have just started Norwegian classes at Nygaardskole, which are great, but I am the only person there with English as a first language. I was wondering if anyone else is studying here and would like to get together and practise norsk or drink ...

Tammy

Hi Phoebe, I don't go anymore, but I found there were more people with English as a first language on the evening courses than the day time ones. If you don't get any responses here, you might have some luck just hanging out in the canteen at break ... Read More

We are moving to Bergen on saturday and I am so nervous!!! Does anyone want to meet up so I can speak my language? Also does anyone have any tips about the city for 1 year olds??

Totally agree with what Ben just said, you don't need to speak Norwegian to work at the international school. I know a few people who work there as nursery assistants and supply teachers all got their jobs by sending in a CV and letter as opposed to ... Read More
