Up until a few years ago, expats were advised to bring everything as things here were hard to find or very expensive.
it has improved quite a lot, now you can find queen sized beds, BBQ's, decent sheets and towels but generally at a higher price than N. America.
There are some things though that are not common, such as a rotary clothes line, a garden cart, crockpots, large sizes of shoes, anything for hobbies can be difficult to find or expensive if you want good quality.
We brought a container and i think it would have cost just as much to re-buy everything as pay to bring our own stuff. Don't forget though that the voltage here is 220 so you need a good transformer to run anything electrical. We brought everything and have only purchased a few items in the last four years such as appliances and a couple of pieces of furniture.
I would not bring large appliances as the brands here are different and trying to bring anything with an engine such as car, truck, motorbike will be an expensive and time consuming mistake as many have discovered unless you are a Uruguayan citizen and have been out of the country for a couple of years. Even then, it can be expensive.
