The subject of this thread is likely a rumor,

nothing more.  This apparent rumor

is unsourced so far as we know.

If you visit prominent travel sites such

as Booking.com, Expedia.com or

AirBnb, you should find plenty of listings

for Ecuador.

Popular Íæż½ã½ã locations include highland,

cool-weather cities such as Quito, Cuenca

and Cotacachi .. and coastal locations such

as Manta and Salinas, among others.

USA Today's take on Ecuador and Íæż½ã½ãting.

USA Today has published a 2023 update on

the Íæż½ã½ã scene .. focusing on some of the

'usual suspects' among the writers, past and

present, for IL Magazine and

Live and Invest Overseas.  Lee Harrison, 70,

and his wife are portrayed as examples of

Íæż½ã½ãs who have made the transition to

Íæż½ã½ã life successfully.

Culling through the usual pap for any nuggets

the famous newspaper found worthy of

mention, we note the following...

-- In the past 20 years, the number of

USA retirees worldwide who are receiving

their Social Security benefits abroad

has doubled, to about 443,000, acccording

to SSA figures.

-- In 2021, the median income for

USA citizens age 65 and up was

$47,620.

-- The popular Íæż½ã½ã destination of

Mexico has 1.6 million U.S. citizens

living within its borders.

-- Ecuador, Panama and Belize

are three Latin American countries

where the currency used is the

U.S. dollar.  This mitigates currency

fluctuations that might otherwise

reduce Íæż½ã½ã spending power in

those countries.
