Approval of citizenship and real-world experience..MJSP/PF

Amoremeu

@John Medros Hi John what city and state are you in? I was thinking maybe they don't visit if you live in a very remote area or small town or something

@abthree

Thanks for the information you share here. I was moved today and was never visited as I was told by a staff in the PF here in Rio that if everything was fine they would move it forward.

Fingers crossed that I wouldn't have a three months or more story with MJSP.

@Amoremeu

It depends on the city you apply from. Some PFs don't visit while others do. Sao Paulo city is known to visit

SP applicant. Applied in Sept-2023, invited for Biometrics in Jan-2025.

Not heard a peep, honestly just going to give up and leave.

Wow. You mean they took a whole year to invite you for biometrics?

Please don't give up. There's nothing more for you to do now. It's up to them to send it to the next stage whenever. It takes time because it's Sao Paulo and they have more workload but know that you are not alone. A friend did biometrics in December and is still waiting

I am at the very final stage; about two weeks ago, two PF agents came to my home around 13:00 on a weekday.  They explained their purpose and had me come down to talk to them.  We went to a neighbour's house and they verified with him that I indeed live at the address.  The agents took his information and told me they were forwarding everything to the Capitol.

As of last week I received notice that MJSP has received everything, so I am waiting and checking the DOU every day; however, this process has dragged on for almost two years at this point.  It's simply not worth contracting with an attorney and pay R$5.000 for them to send a strongly worded letter to the MJSP and hope for the best.

How long did the whole process take?  Not sure whether the process depends on where you are located...

When I did it in 2019 (the petition was still paper-based then, so computerization doesn't seem to have sped it up any), the process took a little over nine months, from initial petition to publication in the DOU.  The home visit took place about a month before publication, and I was assured that after some in-house formalities at the Justice Ministry I'd be approved, which is what happened.

Everything stopped during the pandemic, and afterwards reports from everywhere in Brazil indicated that processing was taking a lot longer.  I thought that they'd get back to nine to twelve months once they worked through the backlog, but that doesn't seem to have happened yet.

I hope that it comes through for you soon.

When it does, keep in mind that the Ministry of Justice does NOT advise other agencies of your status change, so you'll have to do that yourself.  Justiça Eleitoral will be helpful in telling you where you'll need to go; they will probably tell you to go to your municipal office to get your Carteira de Identidade Nacional (CIN, replacing the old RG), and to the Polícia Federal to request your passport.

They may not tell you to go to the Receita Federal to update your CPF record, but this is important, and probably should be done before you get your CIN.  Besides telling the RF that you're now a citizen, you want to make sure that the way your mother's name appears on your CPF record matches your other documents.  If it doesn't, they're very good about changing it.  The system for issuing your CIN will check against the RF database for your mother's name, and if they don't match, your CIN request will be rejected.  This thread details the trouble that mismatch can cause:  /en/forum/south-am … izens.html

If you have a Brazilian Driver's License, you'll need to go to DETRAN to update that record, too.  It requires an in-person visit, but since DETRAN does not seem to communicate with any other agency, it can probably wait until your next renewal date.

My initial petition was October of 2023.  Apparently they decided in about March of this year that they didn't like my FBI IdHS, so I had it done again but was unable to submit it to the site, so I made an argument with the PF and they accepted it along with a sworn statement of lack of criminal history.  Heard nothing else til about two months ago when I did biometrics, then recently with the PF visit.
