Change of citizenship while on Australian PR visa

ekhfaiz

Hello,

I wonder if anyone has been in a situation where they have changed their citizenship while having Australian PR on their previous passport.
If there are any problems in transferring the PR to the new country passport?

Regards
Faiz

Hi,

If you have your immi account, you can update the new passport and keep the PR on the old passport to show them. As long as they update that in their system, you may not need to keep hard copy of the PR visa. They use VEVO which is an online system now

Why would you change passport. You either want to live in the country you gained new passport for or the country you had pr for. It will not look good if changing allegiance half way through a process. I would expect that australia immigration would look down on you as your loyalty lays elsewhere. Unless you have a very very good reason for changing passport.

Australia allows dual citizenship so why would they look down on this? Yes there is a very good reason for this situation.
