New migrant to rent house in Sydney

Suryakp

As far as I know, to rent a house in Sydney Australia, we need to show  salary slip/job offer letter as a compulsory document. As if, as a new migrant to the country, we wouldn't be having job letter in hand, still me and family would be needing a house to stay.
Could anybody suggest how could a new migrant to Sydney Australia, who is a PR holder, could get house on rent without having a job offer in hand.

You would have to show evidence that you have the finances to pay all upfront costs, and at least 1 years rent.
This would be over and above any living costs for your family including schooling, transport, food, household insurance etc.
Even then it would be very difficult.

For living costs try

Thanks for the information. Looks challenging. Any idea if we pay five-six month's rent inadvance to focus on other priorities. We could get a house on rent?

stumpy

No. Rentals are usually done on a 12 month lease. You pay a deposit which is held in an account against any damages etc to the house when you leave. Rent is paid monthly. If you leave before the end of the lease period you may be liable to pay any outstanding rent to the end of the lease period. That is, leave at 10 months pay 2 months rent.

to rent a home in your name yes, you are correct. However, if you were to establish yourself in a room in someone else's  home for a period, they would be able to give you at least some of the necessary paperwork you will need to do it alone.

besides, it is also far cheaper and can be very rewarding for both host family and yourself.

Thanks for the information. Do you have any idea, how to find such shared accommodations? Is it through websites like gumtree, or by contacting brokers in Sydney?

Pay a bigger bond or know someone...

Suryakp

Ok . Thanks.

Hard to find shared accommodation that will allow a whole family to live in one room. It is actually illegal.

Suryakp

Oh, ok. Thanks for the information.
