Property prices in Los Angeles

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Finding affordable housing in Los Angeles is number one priority for newcomers. Tell us more about the estate market in your district/city/region.

What are the most desired places to live? What are the most affordable ones? What is the average cost of a rented flat? And what is the average sale price for an appartment or a house? Could you tell us more about local real estate policies/procedures? What about property tax or residency tax in Los Angeles?

What about you? Where do you live now? Is it a place you would recommend?

Thank you in advance for your clarifications.

I live in Southern California, just outside Los Angeles near LAX. The beach cities are expensive. A 3 bedroom house rents for about $3500/month. If you move further from the city/beach rents go down. If you leave Los Angeles county and go to San Bernardino county (Upland, Rancho Cucamongo etc.) a 3 bedroom townhouse rents for about $2100/month. The website is a good place to start to get an idea about rents. For more information on each neighborhood I suggest asking locals. Opinions about different cities will vary among the locals  depending on peoples own experiences and preferences i.e. some people would never live away from the beach, others think paying that much is crazy.
