Not possible, as far as I'm aware.  You're supposed to go to AAA and get it before leaving.

What foreign country are you in?  Ukraine does not require it, just on the chance that's where you went.

Could you please share source that says that Ukraine doesn't require IDP.   I got 3 different answers from 3 different people at DMV office in Ukraine regarding requirements to drive in Ukraine

Ukraine is a country that is a contracting party to the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic since July 1974. They recognize US driving licenses without the need for an IDP. Several web sources (Google is your friend) say that an IDP is "recommended", but it is not required by law.

Your experience at the DMV there sounds much like that in Romania, you get a different answer depending on who you ask and on which day   The employees are often not well educated in such matters, or simply don't care.

Well, I got a ticket over the weekend.  US license was not recognized.  Need to either get IDP or UA license

USA was not a signing party of the Vienna convention of 1968, therefore one would need to have an IDP to operate a vehicle in UA.        %D0%BF#Text , point 30

*The requirements may vary depending upon your residence status in Ukraine. eg. Temporary residence permit, permanent residence permit.

On homepage, AAA says interamerican driving license is required in Ukraine (see 3 asterisks). On AAA form, it says that IDP is honored...
