Taxes for expats in Mexico

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

When settling in and living in Mexico, you will also need to navigate the local tax system. In order to help newcomers and expats ease their tax-related experience, we would like to invite you to share your experience.

What are the taxes applicable to expats in Mexico?

Have there been any recent changes in tax regulations that expats should know about?

Are there any local tax incentives or agreements with your home country?

Have you come across any unexpected or unusual local tax?

What do you wish you had known earlier about taxes in Mexico?

Share your insights and experience.

Thank you for your contribution.

If you own property in Mexico you will need to pay property taxes. If you are a resident and over sixty you can get a senior discount card INAPAM. It is a very useful card to have. You get into museums free and archaeological sites free, half price bus fare and discount on property taxes. If you pay your yearly property taxes in full, for the entire year, before the end of January you will recieve a discount and an additional discount with your INAPAM card. As most of you know on purchases, dining out, other items you buy, the taxes are rolled into the price. So the price you see on the item is the price you pay.
