Biggest thing... Do you meet the monthly income requirement for residency? Temp residence is in the 4k a month of certified retirement income.  Perm residence is almost 7k a month of certified retirement income.  After that then you can start the rest of the questions.  Because if you dont meet that then its a waste of time to even look at moving to mexico.  As long as they keep moving the min wage here up every year the income required for residency will keep going up since the equation is based on min wage. So unless the Mexican govt changes that equation it's very expensive to get qualified.  In 2021 when we moved here Perm was 4k ish a month and temp was 1600 ish a month.

I am flying down on a tourist visa and i hope to get the 180 days (im also candian) so im hoping... fingers crossed.   when i fly down because im not sure where i will be during my 180 days to return, do i have to have a return flight booked or can i just do it a 1 way for now... when driving across they give the # of days and they can return whenever... i hope i make sense to what im asking.   thank you and defiantly have a grand day...   Sandy

Hi Sandy. Are you from Pacifica? I was a Bay Area gut before moving to Mexico over 8 years ago.

There are no longer guarantees that you will get the 180 days. It used to be an automatic but now it depends on what airport your fly, which agent you get, and what mood they are in on that day. There is no uniformity not consistency when it come to Mexican bureaucracy.

I tell my clients to have some sort of a lease agreement if possible showing you already have a place to stay in Mexico. In lieu of that you can tell them that you want to move to Mexico because you love the people and the culture and you need 6 months to see where you are going to live.

Good luck to you.   Happy to answer  any other questions

Thank you Kerry.    I'm was born in victoria bc canada.. mom/dad  moved to SF for a couple of years then moved to Pacifica, then I turned 18 and thought I knew everything and moved back to Victoria, I regret it now. So, I'm moving to mazatlan (99.5%) sure.  I'm hoping in 2 years just trying to put money in a row instead of ducks.  I've got questions but I think most of them will be answered at the airport.   I have to be able to use my phone (I'm with virgin right now)  my family is in victoria and California.  Plus I can't spend an arm/leg to do it.  So I have to figure that out.  Now I will have to get a airbnb I guess or find an apt that I can rent from here.  Maybe I can find a friend or someone that I can really trust to help me get one for 6 mths..  so much to figure out.  I'm tired of SNOW...

If by any chance you are looking for a city that's both beatiful and safe, Mérida, Yucatán would be a great choice.

Part of the process of moving to México will probably involve acquiring a home ♥

If you are looking for one, I am selling one of my two houses in Mérida, Yucatán for 70,000 USD.

Feel free to reach out for more info or for a virtual tour.

Good luck in the process!

I thought the minimum wage there in Mexico was very low, on par with China.  It’s one of the reasons so much manufacturing went across the border.

With 10% CDs at Mexican banks, low-rent buying is not a smart economic idea.    We looked.  If we take the money it would cost us for the house we want and put it in a CD at 10% we found the same type house for less than 25% of our return on the CD for a years rent.  Yes we make 75% return a year with our money in a CD and renting then we would have buying the house.  And with that comes no major repairs to pay for, no yearly property taxes to pay for.  Just a heads up most Ex pat areas they sell houses for USA prices... while you can rent them for half of USA prices its a no brainer to make money with your money over buying a house here in mexico.
