I am in IT security domain with 10 years of experience. I am currently single but i don't have much idea on whether it is decent salary or not.

That's much more than a decent salary :) My friend he has 9k and he is very happy with that. A flat will cost you max. 7000 AED and food/transport are very cheap here.

shrin

ah ok that's good to know mate. Thanks. in 7k do you get furnished accommodation ?

im looking at properties at the moment as im hoping to be in Dubai shortly for 7500 you can get a fully furnished hotel apartment with all utilities covered its like a suite in a hotel and all you need to pay is food and travel. im also going to be on 20k a month with an additional 9200 in bonus if I hit targets. anyone got any advice on fully furnished apartments between the airport  and main city life?

If you are staying long term (1 year +) , I'd advise against the hotel apartment.

You can get your own studio apartment starting from 25K/year and up.

For 35-40 you can a decent one in a decent place.

On top of that you will have to pay 5% commission (paid  upfront only for the first year), 5% security deposit (paid upfront only first year as well, and refundable upon exit), and 5% municipality fees (paid on 12 payments with your utility bills) ..... Rent is usually paid on quarterly basis in advance.

Furnishing a studio would be around 15-20K .....

So you'd end up paying 35K (very decent studio) + 15% + 20K for furniture. Utilities, Internet would cost around 800 to 1K/month ...... so for the first year you'd be paying around 72K/year, which comes down to 6K/month.

The nice thing is that starting the 2nd year, it's only rent + 5% + utilities which will add up to around 48K/year or 4K/month ......

and when you leave, you will get your deposit back and sell the furniture even for half price !

Only problem with such plan is that you have to pay upfront one quarter (around 9K) + 10% (3.5K) + furniture (20K) + DEWA contract and some misc. fees (1-2K) ..... around 35K upfront, then afterwards 9K/quarter for rent and around 1K/month for utlities.

You can buy the furniture on zero interest over 6 months using a local credit card (so many banks offer a 0% facility over 3-6 months with lots of the major stores)

thanks for that. the reason im looking at the hotel apartment is its all in one payment. and I don't have the approx. 35k upfront to start off with. I was thinking about the apartment for 6-12 months to allow me to save the money to setup an apartment, if I hit my targets every month ill be earning just short of 30k a month so wont take me long to get the upfront figure.

much appreciate your reply

Well ..... you don't need the 35K upfront as I told you, you will just need about 15K and the 20K for the furniture you can finance interest-free over six months which will set you back a little over 3K/month

im looking for a 2bedroom apartment. let me know if you guys have been able to find something around 50-55k a year.

madmonk1972

theres lots for that price on dubizzle m8 im moving in july and depends where u are looking to stay you shouldn't have a problem

borntobemild

well the problem with dubizzle is that they are ads posted by agents who almost always say "oh that one for 55k is already gone, i have something for 70 if you want". so you gotta watch out. people out here try to make all the pennies they can make.

Sorry for not being capable of sharing inputs on your query for this thread.  I just can't hide how awesome your salary offer is, so inspiring for a jobseeker on August like me.  Made me kinda scared too because, I am an IT graduate on 2011 but doesn't have any IT main specialty or experience for that matter, just a simple Technical Support for a Business Process Outsourcing Company on the AT&T account in the US is the only sort of IT-ish experience I had.  Prior to my IT degree, I had a 2 year diploma in Computer Secretarial and Business Management, had my first job in line to that previous education which went on for about 4 years though.  Anyways, enough about me.. Aside from the 10 year experience you had in IT Security domain, How did you happen to seal the deal on the 20k salary?  Really hoping you could share some insights, as well as maybe disclosing which company you're at if it's not too much.  Thank you in advance.

2 bedrooms for this budget,  you need to go to areas like sport city, silicon oasis etc

Shrin,
an IT guy with 10+ years? I bet you deserve more. Try negotiating you may fetch another 2-5K more. I m into IT with 9 years and I know what is decent salary for an experienced IT professional.
