Presentation of members in Al Ain
we can meet up over a meal or a shisha
Hi Junkie,
You won't have to worry about meeting South Africans here, as I can say I have been here for 6 weeks and have already bumped into many friendly characters, of which many were from South Africa.
Hello Everyone,
I have recently moved from London to Al Ain. I have now been here for 6 weeks, and I have to contradict many of those who have left negative comments regarding Al Ain. In London I grew up in the suburbs of the cosmopolitan city, and in a way I preferred living away from the city, but in close reach of city, a comparison I can relate to Al Ain. Its only about an hour drive to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, so your not exactly too far from the major cities.
What I like about Al Ain is that it has a close knit community. There aren't many places to go out to in the even, and more often than not a night out starts in Pacos in the Hilton, and then moves onto Moodz in the Rotana. But the best thing is you seem to see the same faces everywhere you go, so if your new you can easily make new friends, and very quickly.
If your already bored in Al Ain, then I suggest you step out of the box and explore activities you have not considered in the past. Many of the western expats I have met describe Al Ain as a holiday destination. So you can find sports clubs, outdoor venture parks, water parks etc.
I think a meet up is a very good idea, it would be nice to organise a social to meet new people. If everyone can suggest their interests then what we can do is form our own group and have something different to do every weekend

Hello pabbm !
Thank you for your contribution.
Harmonie.
hi, the reason behind our move to alain is my better half working for an emiratie office, 2 of my girls are excited to go over but my 10 year old is finding it hard to leave her friends from school and her family in the uk. i hope that there is lots of things in alain to keep her occupied, hopfuly it will be easy for them to make new friends as well. xx
Leaving friends and family behind is always going to be a tough ask, and even harder for someone so young. However, at least the weather is a lot better out here, and because the culture in Al Ain is very family friendly I'm sure your children will settle in just fine. The three main malls in Al Ain: Bawadi Mall, Al Ain Mall and Al Jimi Mall, all have plenty of activities for young children...something I found very impressive, as you just don't get the same kind of culture back home in the UK.
thank you for your comments, im sure it will be fine, it is just that nervous feeling you have before that big step moving from the familiar things and faces to the unknown:)
I understand how you feel. I was the same when I came here just over 6 weeks ago, but I quickly eliminated doubts. This country has a lot more to offer than Spain. I feel more at home here than I did during my time in Spain, a European powerhouse. I think that says a lot about this country. Al Ain sometimes is considered as a holiday destination because its not like the major cities, such as, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. But from my personal opinion if your looking to bring up your children within a close knit community and a close knit family then Al Ain is definitely the best place for you; and remember you are only about an hour or so away from Abu Dhabi and Dubai for the perfect city day outs

and not too far behind Greece, Portugal and Ireland in the bankruptcy stakes eh?

Hello,
I am going to be teaching in AD or Al Ain this upcoming school year with ADEC. I got hired through caneducom.com. Wondering how things are there? I am a single mom with 2 children in middle school. I think I may be living in Al Ain as they say it is better for families and single women. I would love any info. you may have to offer me. Thank you and good luck with the teaching. When you say "stressful" at school, what do you mean exactly? I am curious to see how it would differ from teaching in the inner-city here in the USA. Thanks again
Hi there, I am also about to move to Al Ain as I have a job with ADEC. I am just awaiting flight details. I am married with a 17month old son, that my husband will be looking after to allow me to work. I too have worked in inner city school in glasgow, some of the most deprived areas, it cannot be any more stressful than that surely?? Veronica
Hi,
I've been in Al Ain now for almost 2 years and yes after the initial period have settled in. You do need to make a real effort to go out and meet people. But i have found everyone friendly.
The Rugby Club is a great place to meet if you havent tried it out.
But i agree the odd week-end in Dubai every so often is a must.
Hi All,
I wonder if anyone in AlAin, does organize any kind of meet up's, where all expat community could chat and probably enjoy a drink or two.
Drop me a line, if any one has any ideas.
Cheers
Very good idea Jack!

Well if you don't mind making the journey over to Abu Dhabi then you're more than welcome in joining us. I've just started something where every week people from Íæż½ã½ã meet up and have dinner together or go watch a movie or something like that. Anyone and everyone is welcome.
I was initially in Al Ain for the 2.5 half months, but I have since moved to Abu Dhabi.
Regards,
Mohit
If anyone comes to Abu Dhabi and is interested in meeting new people and is interested in making new friends from all types of culture and backgrounds, the take a look at this link:

Well Jack we will be meeting up every Friday. This Friday we are going for a meal to a Lebanese restaurant, and one of our members also suggested bowling and then to top it off there is nice place over here, which we found last week, where we can get some ice cream/desserts, and those who would like to do some shisha they can also do that.
Please let me know if your interested and I'll keep you updated about this Friday.

Hi Veronica,
Welcome to the UAE, I was in Al Ain for nearly three months and I really enjoyed my time out there. However, I have since moved to Abu Dhabi.
If you and your husband ever wish to explore other parts of Abu Dhabi and meet new people, then I run an Íæż½ã½ã Meet-ip Group, which will now be meeting up every Friday for meals, movies etc. So if you're ever interested, let me know and I can provide you further details.

Mohit

I moved all the off-topic messages to a private forum!
Could you please avoid unnecessary arguments and concentrate on the initial topic now?
Thanks and regards

WEll my name is Jo, i'm from South Africa, arrived in Al Ain about two weeks ago, very home sick, hope to meet up with some other South Africans.
Hello Bibrak & Jo
well first off since this is an Íæż½ã½ã I have to take the responsibility upon myself to drill something in ::
Íæż½ã½ãs are your friends - Íæż½ã½ã IS the nationality
So don't be shy - browse the forum and check out the ppl and just shout out
"Hey I am gonna be at the Dunkin Donuts at XX on XX - Let's meet up"
Don't sit and say - nobody is doing anything and I am homesick .
(Tough love always works!)

Hi,
I am currently deciding whether to move to Al Ain or not...I currently live in the UK and never moved abroad by myself before am therefore quite nervous!
I understand that Al Ain is a beautiful city but am worried that there might not be many people my age (27) who are also out there by themselves...any advice?
Thanks!
Naz
Defo dont move in Here
I mite not sound very helpful, its what i feel.
If u in for the money ( luxury life & tax free fat pay check )then yei get in here.
Hope it helps
Only problem: you sound YOUNG. It's a great place for older people; young people, esp. if you're single, find it a bit boring. But you can drive up to Dubai at weekends -- if you like shopping malls. I'd call it 'suburban-living-in-the-desert'
Oh Did i mention i am 29 ... Its like Help me lord and i am moving soon back to the UK
Hey everyone, James here.
I've been in UAE for 2 years, Dubai for 6 months and Al Ain 1.5.
I'm an independent On visit Visa for 2 years, Working on and maintaining Ex-pats cars. I'm real close to opening my own garage,,Enshallah. I was on Dubai expat forum for a long time figured I would say hello to my neighbors. I love it in Al Ain, I don't think I will go home )
Hi. My name is Haytham. I am Egyptian by birth. I grew up in Pittsburgh Pa., USA. I finished college here in UAEU in Al Ain and have been working as an LT since 1994 (yeah getting old ). I have worked on Dalma Island (Western Abu Dhabi) and moved to Al Ain in 2008. I spend my free time on facebook and just surfing the net. I am also an expert in computers and phones. I'd like very much to get to know more people in Al Ain.
Thanks goes out to those responsible for this forum.
Hi all,
I just moved to Al Ain a few weeks ago for work for an outdoor sports and rec company. This is my first time living abroad, so it's been a bit of an eye-opener. I'm originally from North Carolina, and graduated from Chapel Hill a few months before getting here.
I'm looking to meet other people from the US, Canada, and the UK. If anyone wants a climbing, surfing, or drinking buddy, I'm game.
Hi.
Just got my final paperwork through so I'll be there soon. I'm English, lived here in Sydney for 5 years with a year in Riyadh in between. Just looking forward to being out and about again. Hope to see some of you around!
Well, after 1 year and 6 months in Abu Dhabi I returned to Al Ain. So this is my third year in UAE.
I lost my password before so the ADMIN can cancel my old username Chicco. I registered again but with a different nickname.
My name is Francesco, 40 years old, engineer from Italy (Rome) and living and working in Al Ain. Finally I will have my privacy in my small apartment in the downtown so you're most welcome to have a drink or a dish of italian pasta/pizza.
I like to run and go to the gym, Danat Hotel and usually I'm in Pacos at Hilton in the evening. Al Ain is a little bit boring but if someone can make me more happy here will be ok.
Ciao
