ADVETI Dec 2015 London interviews
Hi said
My interview was in December as a teacher trainer. They were quite fast and gave me recommendation in a week. I did the forms early Jan and sent pdf copies. I don't know what's next and how do I get legalised and which documents?
How about you. When did you interview and what job ?
My interview was on the 21st December, it was very quick as well. It was initially for a teacher trainer but they later said those positions were filled and it's now a english classroom teacher.
Have you recieved your initial offer letter signed and sent back.
As for legalising docs this is done through a solicitor who will sign each doc for £5 you then send it off to the foreign commonwealth wealth office in milton keynes £35 per document and then you send it to the UAE embassy in london same cost. You only attest your highest degree but if your bringing family you need to attest birth certificates, marriage etc. However it's your decision if you want to do this now or when you get your final contract.
Are you happy with getting a teaching job?
Any idea where you wish to be placed?
I have signed and sent back. I'm not looking forward to the legalisation process. I have previously just given to a company and they did all that. If I legalise it once do I get a certificate j can keep and use for other jobs?
I don't want to have to keep doing the process so I'm wondering what do I get and can I get a few copies of its a certificate
So I need to attest them and take them to the UAE with me?
How long til I get final contract after filling in pre employment form?
And how long for visa and to fly?
We're all in the same position at the moment. However i was told it takes 3 weeks after the initial offer to get your contract and visa then your off.
I would prefer areas like sharjah ajman as they're cheaper especially when it comes to accommodation.
I think once you do the legalisation of your docs for a particular country that should be the only time. The docs will be copies i believe which your lawyer will sign to say they're the right copy. Otherwise you'll have signatures all over your certificate.
No I meant. Once legalised. Whatever they give me I can keep for future posts cos I don't wanna get it every time I go for a new job. Like next time I might go to another country
Thanks for info. I hope I'm out soon
Sharjah seems too busy for me and they never told me what locations are available  Do you know?
I hope it is only three weeks. I just want to get on with it
Oh I didn't know that. The group is ADVETI STARTERS 2015/16
Hi everyone
I thought I would help by trying to answer some of the questions on this thread.
For those, like me, who were interviewed in the UK in December last year, the position now on offer is an 'English Teaching' position. Not a teacher trainer. However, there are elements of this in the new role, as we will have to help train 3 local teachers.
Your highest academic qualification needs to be attested here in the UK. This involves going to a public notary, then sending the notarized COPY to the FCO to be legalised. When this is done, you or a courier needs to send this to the UAE Embassy in London to be attested. I have been told this process takes around 10 days - 2 weeks. Expect to pay £130 - £200 for the privilege!
Once you have all the required documents, you need to send scanned copies to your recruiter and he/she will forward them on to the Ministry of Education. The MOE is now in charge of the program, not ADVETI, although some paperwork may show the ADVETI watermark/seal.
The program normally has two intakes in January and August. However, my recruiter told me that the MOE are looking for teachers ASAP, meaning a February/March leaving date possible.
The emirate of Dubai has now been included in possible destinations, so basically, you could be working anywhere in the UAE. I have lived in the UAE before, and all Emirates have their charm and moving around the country is easy (bus/taxi/car). Only Dubai has a subway/tube/metro network!
I have been told that the time between initial contract offer and final contract offer is dependent on your paperwork and the needs of the MOE.
Good luck everyone!
Hi
Thanks for your time and response
So do you basically have two workloads.
You do what the usual teachers do with added responsibility on top?
Can I ask do you know what destinations are on the table now?
Umme
I am in the UK, I am just relaying what my recruiter has told me and what I learnt at the interview.
There are seven Emirates that make up the UAE and all seven now appear to be available.
Thanks
Your recruiter seems on the ball!
Who are you with?
Hi All,
I attended the Manchester interview in December and was then recommended for a English Teaching position.Â
Received an email today and it appears that we have to shell out for our Emirati ID (about £70) as well as arranging our transport to the hotel from the airport (in UAE). As well as paying for our credentials to be certified, it looks like a £500 investment.
Has anyone received any further info from their recruiter? My recruiter is Chase Resourcing.
Well not surprising really this is expected as they're always changing things. However I thought they paid all visa expenses including emirati ID.
Have you recieved your final contract then?
We were told the final contract will be sent to us after Adveti has concluded their pre-employment process (whatever that is).
Have you come across any positive comments from teachers working for Adveti on any forums? All the ones I have read are warning us to stay away!
Don't listen to everything you read here. Checkout the Facebook group adveti 2015/16 you will get a clearer picture of teachers experience.Â
All I can say is that the hours are as long as the uk teaching hours. Students behaviour is an issue but that's also an issue in the uk.
Hi all
I believe the MOE/ADVETI will cover our visa costs, as long as the amount does not exceed 850 AED (£160). To be honest, I have no idea if that includes an Emirates ID or not, but £70 in the grand scheme of things is not going to be a 'dealbreaker' for me!
Looking at previous blogs, ADVETI/MOE will issues final contracts and book flights etc. on a group basis. They are probably waiting on some of us to complete our paperwork.
I have also been told that we will be flying to Dubai (DXB), where we are set to spend two nights, before spending an additional seven nights in our respective emirates.
I hope this helps, but once again, I am only repeating what my recruiter has told me.
Good luck everyone.
Thanks for the updates people
Really helpful
Cheers
May I also point out. Some people may think the little expenses are not a dealbreaker. But remember you're on three month probation and you pay a years accommodation up front. So have you thought about what happens if you lose your job in a month or two. Any thoughts?
Wait.. you have to pay for 1 year's accommodation upfront!?! I did not know that. In Saudi it was pay as u go (1 month at a time).
Yes you have to pay yourself. Some people just stay in hotel apartments for a bit. But housing is the major cost in living there. So it's a bit of a risk paying for a place if you end up leaving
Yes, life in the UAE is not cheap, but neither is the UK. I guess it depends on where you are from. Compared to London, the UAE is still a little cheaper.
If you go to numbeo dot com you can compare the cost of living between any two major world cities. Generally speaking the UAE is cheaper than the UK (London & SE), however the internet and obviously alcohol and pork products are more expensive.
Umme, you are right to highlight the cost of renting as our major expense. This could easily be anywhere between 20%-50% of your salary, but quite a few landlords accept installments (2-6 cheques per year), although the overall price you pay may be higher!
When I looked online recently, Abu Dhabi appears to be the most expensive emirate to live in. Surprisingly, Dubai is one of the cheapest (oversupply maybe). Also rents are falling slightly (down 5% on this time last year).
As long as we can rent an apartment month by month then that's fine. I might not commit to a 12 month rental until probably the start of the 2nd year of the contract.
I'm assuming we have to rent a car so that we can be mobile to get to the other teaching locations. One past teacher said that you might just get a day's notice to teach at another location and apart from Dubai, the transport links between the lesser known cities isn't great.
Thanks for taking the time to respond
How much money would we need for the first month. For rent etc
How much do landlords need and do we get an advance from the company?
Yes, I was told that some teachers (especially those on the teacher trainer program) stay in hotel apartments if they have to do a lot of travelling. On the flip side, those who are employed as English teachers are normally based at a sole school/campus. Either way, a car is a must in my opinion. I lived in Dubai 10 years ago and exchanging your UK/EU driving license for a UAE one is very easy. I think I paid somewhere in the region of 100 AED.
Leasing a car could be a good option, especially during our first few months. Looking online, the cheapest car I could find was a Chevy something (Ford Fiesta size) for around 1250 AED per month on a 6 month lease. It included insurance and maintenance! Petrol is around 25p-30p a litre as of last week.
Hi
Is anyone planning on taking their spouse & kids with them? I'm sure they were offering an allowance towards employee's kids' education.
Hi options I have put down their details on the pre employment form but I haven't heard anything regarding them. Except in the contract it said u cn take spouse and upto 3 children.
I remember reading somewhere (probably on a job ad) that they might be offering up to 80000 AED towards education costs. I guess we have to wait for final contract.
Yesterday, my recruiter asked me for the earliest date I could fly out. Have u also been asked?
Yh they asked me that at the begining, but my agency said it should take them 3 weeks to sort out visas and then the final contract will be sent to us. It all boils down to when that contract comes I take it.
Yes, I am planning on bringing my wife and kids out, but not right away. I will wait until after probation and for things to settle down a little though.
On older blogs/threads people have been offered up to 80,000 AED p.a. for eligible children (5-18 years old) and a 20,000 AED relocation allowance, however I am not sure this is still the case. The cost ( and no doubt the quality) of education varies widely, starting at around 20,000 AED though to 85,000 AED per year per child.
Has everyone finished their paperwork?
When you say paperwork what are you referring to? I completed and sent off the pre-employment form weeks ago and was told once that process has been completed by Adveti (within 1 month) then the visa process will begin.
My situation is the same as option2
My recruiter told me that the MOE/ADVETI require the following documents:
1. A scanned copy of our degree and English language qualifications (e.g. CELTA or TESOL certificate). Our degree or highest academic qualification must be attested
2. A scanned copy of Academic Transcripts for any degrees we hold
3. A scanned copy of your passport
4. A scanned photograph – passport style
5. Pre-Employment Form
6. A scanned copy of experience letters – a bit like references but only needing to list our start and finish dates and the role we performed. They must be stamped, on company letterhead and signed by an authorised person. We need this for any job in the UAE.
7. The name, position and contact details for at least two recent referees.
When I looked on earlier threads, teachers needed to send all these documents to ADVETI, via their agent, before a final contract was issued. Some people received their final contracts within weeks, others appeared to be waiting months.
I'm in the same situation.Â
Has anyone sent off their paperwork for attestations?
Any idea how long that takes by post
I'm wondering whether to do it now or wait for the final co tract first?
Also, does anyone know how much money we need to set us up?
I think the best thing to do is just wait for final contract, at least then all these questions will bemail answered and they will tell you what you need to do and how to go about doing it.
Yes. But sending my documents by post
I was told UAE embassy can take ages posting it back and visa takes three weeks. So if you miss the match group. You wait til sept. So j will do first two steps
I would do this after the final contract as it can be quite costly and you want to be sure.
You need to take your originals to the solicitor who will colour photocopy them, sign the photocopies to say he/she has seen the original and can verify it's real (the whole purpose of verification), and then you send those photocopies to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office where they start the attestation process. this takes 48 hours or up to 7 days. Solicitors charge £5 to sign per document, and FCO is £35 per document. Its another £35 for each document at the UAE Embassy.
Then the FCO will forward the attested documents to the UAE Embassy for you who will then post back to you once they have certified the docs. Allow a week for the whole process. Ofcourse the FCO can send it back to you and you can do a same day service with the UAE embassy in London.
Hope this helps!
