If you work near to Beirut or one of the coastal areas, it's better to live further out, up a mountain, and commute, if you drive. I was lucky enough to live and work in Brumanna, which is lovely town and just a 10 minute drive down to the coast, and half an hour to Beirut. I also lived near Jounieh, but 15 mins up the mountain, in Adma.Â
Having a car is pretty essential as public transport is not great and walking any distance is uncomfortable, difficult and dangerous as pavements only really exist in towns, (and not always then) and drivers are not considerate when people are walking on the edge of the road! For women, walking alone can often be a problem as people will think you are a prostitute. Get a car. Commute and live in a smaller community.
