hi Primadonna, i am sure the Circumcision is not a traditional thing in Jordan or in Arab world.... it belongs to the Islamic law which is not mentioned in Quran but in Sunna.
Circumcision is not also 100% Islamic, before Islam it can be found by Jews (see  Gen. 17 ) and some Christians worldwide in North America (USA), Africa (Ethiopia) and Asia (Philippines).

What i want to tell you, that Circumcision is not a tradition, and a bout the story which you wrote, I am sorry to hear this and this still happened in Jordan, but as a Jordanian, I can tell you, it is true that a man who is driving a car (called Mutaher) around the villages, which now this phenomena disappear because of Mobiles.
It is better if some one needs to do this for his son to go to children Doctor, who has more experience and he is expert.

Yes, you are right but I was not talking about the tradition of the circumcision but how its get done by a man who drive around.

This doesn't happen in Jordan anymore. Maybe in some small villages!
Everyone in Jordan is very health conscious and people do it at the hospital.

As far as I know, in my husband's village they just do this at the hospital now... but... we're both in our mid 30s and he was done this way by that guy that travels

Recently I discovered a new old tradition.

It seems that if young girls/women attend a wedding that they give a sign to other women that they are available for marriage. It can be a great opportunity to see those youngsters without their scarf and watch them closely how they interact.
For some mothers it's a reason to let their daughters at home.
