Lifestyle differences

Hi everybody,
my husband who's originally Jordanian (muslim) but who's been living in Europe for decades would like us at some point in time to move to Jordan (Amman). I, myself coming from Europe and having lived in Western Europe for quite some time, am quite troubled by that. I've visited Jordan a few times now but I still find it difficult to get used to the culture and place. I tend to compare it to the European style of living and get worried can I live there. There are undoubtedly beautiful things to see but the issues like dressing code for women, limited freedom of movement and activities if you are a woman, disorganised streets and rubbish lying around, etc. cause me a substantial headache. I don't want to offend locals in any way, maybe these are just my wrong perceptions and things are different from what I could see during my few stays in Jordan. Being passionate about singing and dancing, having the habit to bike or walk daily to/from work, walking in the city on my own late at night if I feel for that, going on hikes in summer, staying in cottages with my friends/family etc. I've got to understand that it is quite unlikely I would be able to that in Jordan. I hope there is somebody of you who can prove me wrong...

Hello Anette,

I think life is always differente from one corner of the world to another. If you decide to leave from your home to another place, you have to be prepared for the change in almost every thing. I used to move from a place to another, and there are always positive and negative things every where.
Things are maybe different if you are going to establish in Amman for life, and have some trip in europe when you feel depressed? In any case, i find that jordan or amman is a little bit free (for women) comparing to other countries of the area no!!
