Getting an apostille for old Israeli marriage certificate

ralph2248

Hi,

In connection with a citizenship application for another country, I need to provide certified copies of my grandmother's Israeli marriage and death certificates, with an apostille seal. I live outside Israel, but I have family in Israel who are happy to help.

I have done some research and the process for the death certificate is fairly straightforward, because it was issued about 20 years ago.

However, my grandmother got married in 1937 and the marriage certificate we have is from 1947 i.e. before the establishment of the State of Israel. The certificate does have a stamp, is signed by the rabbi, and states that the marriage was recorded in the Register of Marriages in Rishon Le Zion, with a registration number.

I'm totally confused about how to proceed with getting this document certified and getting the apostille stamp. I don't want to send my family members in Israel on a wild goose chase. Sadly I don't speak Hebrew either.

Anyone else been in this situation or can give me some suggestions?

Thanks!
