Finding your bearings in Bahrain

Priscilla

Hello,

While technology has definitely helped us navigate ourselves more easily in most countries, it's not the case everywhere.

How do you get to your destinations and navigate yourself in Bahrain? Do you use gps systems such as google/apple maps?

Are the gps navigational systems updated enough that they provide accurate information and directions?

Is it enough to simply follow road signs in Bahrain?

Is talking to locals and asking them directions the best way to get around? Are they generally friendly and helpful?

Are there any online resources or other types of resources to help you better understand the road systems, transportation, etc., in order to find your bearings?

What are the steps to take if you get lost?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Google maps is better for Bahrain in my experience as it's more updated regarding road blocks, traffic etc. Be smart when using google maps - I have noticed that in some areas it tries to take you through narrow roads or back alleys (especially in Manama and Muharraq) I just ignore those directions and stick to main roads and wait for the map to adjust itself.

Google maps is fairly up to date and use it with traffic turned on.

Depends on where you are going most popular destinations are easy enough to find if you follow the road signs.

They are quite friendly and helpful though you won't need to ask anybody if you just use the Maps app on your phone.

If you do get lost just try to find your way to the nearest main road / high way you can figure it out from there by following the signs.

Bahrain is tiny if you keep driving long enough you will reach familiar territory  :D

Hi...
When I don't know the place I was using GPS and HERE apps in Bahrain you can download this app easily.
there is voice instruction where you can find easily follow the direction. when you download the apps you can type what is the address of the place where do you want you to go. then simply follow the voice instruction and it has also a route map aside from voice instructions.

Google maps and HERE both work.  Waze is good for spotting speed cameras :)

Practically speaking, once you have been here a few years and with Bahrain being so small, you don't really need an app to find your way.  The only use is to locate address in congested neighborhoods or to avoid traffic.

You can used google /apple map. The Road signs very clear and The Bahraini are very friendly you can ask for directions  if you have too .
I stayed in Bahrain for 8 yrs, so i still remember the roads here.😊
