5 hours transit in Bahrein

asdafvv

Hello,

I'm having a transit in Bahrein in few weeks. I will have 5 hours transit and I was wondering if is possible with this time to get out of the airport for one or two hours.

For this I think that I need to know

* How fast are the airport to get-out get-in? Normally in small or good airports can be managed in one hour...

* What is required to enter to the country? I'm coming form an European country (Spain) and I have read that no visa is required, I think that is just pay 4 EUR.

* Something interesting to do in 1 or 2 hours. I'm thinking in picking up a taxi and just have a fast tour. Is a good idea? Are taxi services expensive?

Many thanks Bahrein expatriates!

Hello asdafvv,

I've moved your post to the Bahrain English speaking forum for more visibility and comprehension.

Hello there. Bahrain Airport is a small one and you can get out and come back in 4 hours. You can go to a shopping mall called Bahrain City Centre - should take about 15 minutes taxi journey (approx. €14 on a taxi - 7BD). But the shopping mall is massive so keep an eye on time.

You can buy your visa during entrance, no issues.

Thanks a lot for the info and Sarah thank for the reclassification of the post. I'm going to see Bahrain :)

You are great!

You will need to fill out a disembarkation card on arrival at Bahrain customs. Do not go to the customs without filling this in as you will be sent to complete it and have to go to the back of the queue. You will take 30mins to get through customs, more like 30mins to get to City Centre and 30mins to get back to the airport to check in and be ready for your next flight. This is taking into consideration the need to know how to get out of City Centre Mall (huge!!) and where to find a cab etc. You need to be very careful and keep a close eye on the time. I personally think it will be too stressful and you will spend more time looking at your watch rather than enjoying Bahrain. Also customs may not let you enter Bahrain as you are flying on to another country shortly after. They do have plenty of restrictions in place.

Hello Just a feedback about that.

I managed to get out two times (in both ways in my main trip). First time without any inconvenience, pay 15 euros for entrance directly in immigration control or change money just before immigration that make more sense (around 10€ to obtain 5 Bahrain currency).

The second time I had an additional problem because the police in immigration man realised that the entrance was only for 5 hours and call to the company airline (gulf air). They told us that is totally aloud by immigration but that we have to download our baggage during the transit. After a discussion about why should happen that (they told security reasons)we agree and it took about 45 minutes extra to wait for baggage. Just after pick it up we went to drop it in the company counter.. stupid rules.

For the rest perfect the airport is very small and fast. For someone like I, that will have very difficult have another chance to visit Bahrain or probably other near country, it had make sense.

Thanks all :)

If you are into history and culture, then I recommend the following places:

1) Al Fateh Mosque - free entrance
2) National Museum - cheap entrance ticket
3) Bait al Quran - free entrance

These places are fairly close to the airport and to each other. You may need about 30 minutes to about 1 hour for Al Fateh Moaque and Bait al Quran. But you will need more time at the museum unless you walk through the exhibits fast. All depends on time available.

Have a great time.
