Stolen Animals in Bahrain

Josnuggles

I find it disgusting that so many animals in Bahrain are stolen.

Can people please be vigilant and keep their eyes open for any suspicious activity.

There are plenty of facebook pages relating to these lost animals. Please see this link

The below link shows one of the many missing animals

This is really horrible. Any ideas as to why they are being stolen? Last year in Australia a dog fighting ring was busted and they were using dogs that had been advertised as 'free to good home'. I think I saw that photo of the golden retriever in Saar on a fence or something. So sad for the owners.

Josnuggles

Breeding, fighting, food, we really don't know. Just wish we did so we can get them back to their owners.

Yep the Retriever went missing in Saar and is still missing.

On a side note, BSPCA is doing a sponsored dog walk. 2KM walk for the little ones and 4KM for the adults. You can bring your own dog or borrow one of BSPCA's dogs to give them a good day out. Minimum 10BD is required for the registration and all donations will go to BSPCA to support their amazing work in Bahrain. Visit for .

Also Tony the Dog Father is doing a "catwalk" at the Kempinsky to raise funds.

URGENT request for volunteers to help out with the "Dogfather's Catwalk" at the Kempinsky Hotel on Saturday 6th April. We urgently need somebody to organise the event, as well as models and helpers. It's a fun theme so please don't be coy or shy :) It If you can help in anyway please call Tony. 39629889.

Interesting event Jo. Texted Tony to see if there is anything I can help him with. But when it comes to organising an event, I think I know someone who is perfect for the job (*wink*wink*)

Josnuggles

I think Tony has it all under control lol. I am going to be doing a lot of work with BSPCA and a lady that helps stray dogs so my hands will be full anyway :)

I am actually planning to join BSPCA as well. Getting there should not be a problem anymore ;)

Great news. Be good to go together :-)

One of the stolen dogs Vicki has been found.

An Indian guy stole her and then sold her to an Arab. The Arab gentleman saw the wanted poster and returned her to her rightful owner immediately.

I haven't heard what has happened to the Indian.

Wow, that was very nice of the Arab man to return the dog. I bet the family were so happy to have their pooch back.

They are over the moon.

If all animals are micro-chipped then a lot more could be found.

If ANYONE buys any animal in Bahrain, they should take it immediately to the nearest vet and have it scanned for a microchip.

OR before buying, you go with the seller to a vets to have the animal scanned. This way if the animal is stolen it can be returned.

If the thieves are aware that this is happening, it will be harder to sell stolen animals and the theft rate may drop.

I agree Josnuggles.  It should be law here that all animals are microchipped when they are first vaccinated whether its a puppy or a rescue dog or whatever - do the BSPCA/Tony microchip them before they are adopted out?? - and yes I know that it's difficult to enforce but its a start - if you bring your animal in from overseas it much be microchipped or they wont allow it in so why they dont have the same law for animals here already is beyond me!

Mind you I guess when they dont enforce the laws of wearing seatbelts, allowing your children to bounce out of the sunroof and driving at 120km on the hard shoulder I guess microchips are way down the list of priorities

Josnuggles

I don't know about the rescue centres but I know who to ask. It's a good and very valid point.

scottrace

Not sure about how much microchipping costs but thinking it could be included/added into the cost of adoption?

Josnuggles

I'm sure they don't charge for adoption but they may have recently changed that. I know the Doah shelter started charging last week. I will ask that question too. Thanks - this feedback is really useful
