CPR Renewal

tamika987

Hello everyone, I just came back to Bahrain a few days ago and I need some advice regarding my CPR renewal.

I have an old CPR that expired in 2022. I left Bahrain when corona started back in 2020, but before that I had a CPR and a CR. Now I came back and I wanted to renew both of them, but I'm running in circles. I tried to enquire in advance, before I arrived, but I couldn't get a definite answer from anyone, everyone was just pointing to the website to check.

So I came back on a visitor's visa, since I didn't know anything better. Apparently my CPR cannot be renewed on a visitor's visa. I can't renew my CR because it expired more than 3 years ago, and I can't apply for a new one because I need a valid CPR. I am a British national. Has anyone any information that could be useful for me please? I can't change my visitor's visa to Flexi visa because flexi visa requires a cancelled or expired work contract - which I haven't got, since I just got back to Bahrain. I'm not sure how I can work around it. Can Anyone help please?

Visit the Ministry of Commerce & Industry ( I think it's in the Seef area) go to the CR Section and request to speak to an official like the Section Head or above. I think this will help in knowing the right procedure. Don't talk to counter staff as they may not know. You can also have an exploratory discussion with a lawyer at Zubi's or Charles Russell or similar. Avoid going to agents.

@Alienn

Thank you very much. Yes, you're right. I've been trying to get info from office staff but they don't know the right procedure. I will try and speak to someone higher up.

@tamika987 You cannot do much using the visitors visa. go back to the UK and re-apply for a business/investors visa then you start a new CR and CPR. Trying to get the old CR and CPR will come with additional cost and penalties/taxes. since you left Bahrain, a lot of things has changed and you won’t find it easy to get what you want and you will end up wasting money.

To keep it very simple.

CPR renewal or issuance requires a valid residence visa for Bahrain. Your CPR number will remain the same forever (even if you leave and the come back) but you would need to get a residence visa first. Now whether that is a work visa or an investor visa, that is up to you.

To reactivate the CR, you need to go to sijilat.bh and do the process there. But since it closed down ages ago, you would need address, bank account etc.  On a visitor visa, you can try to get the CR active (after finding out what state it is in - you may have to pay extra fees).  If you manage to get that done and get it activated in lmra system as well, you can use the CR to convert your visit visa into an investor visa.

Also to get a new CR, you don't need a CPR. Don't know who told you that.  Read the sticky on the forum about setting up a company.  You can use your passport initially (an agent applies on your behalf using his CPR - you give limited POA).

@hasdiva Ok, thank you, I'll look into those visas.

@XTang I tried to apply for a new CR and the system told me that my CPR is invalid. I'm already in the system, I have the ekey from last time I did it, but I couldn't get anywhere without a valid CPR. I'll look into the business visa and also setting up a company, thank you.
