Florida couple bound for Spain

danescapesfl

Greetings everyone,

Just joined this site. Husband and I are planning to move to Spain the end of 2026. We've been studying all that is involved in making this move. We are planning a trip in September to officially pick our town. We are currently quite smitten with Montefrio. I would love feedback from members on this Granada village. Also, life in a small Spanish town. How have your experiences been with your new community?

Hi Dane,

Welcome! I am not familiar with Montefrio specifically but have visited Granada and some of the villages in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. The people are wonderful and welcoming. I wanted to chime in that it does get quite cold in Granada and especially as you head up higher into the mountains. Even the name of the village Montefrio means 'cold mountain'. It can snow in these areas and the way that houses are built in Spain can be quite different than in the US. They can get really cold and central heat is not as common. Instead, electric wall units are used for both air conditioning and heat, or radiators.

This is important to keep in mind especially since you're moving from Florida. Are you wanting to live in an area of Spain where it gets cold for 6 months out of the year? I grew up in St.Cloud in central Florida, next to Kissimmee and Orlando. Then I lived for over ten years in Colorado. Now, I've lived for ten years in the beach town of Denia on the Costa Blanca in the Valencia region. I specialize in custom travel planning and Spain Scouting Trips. You can enjoy my website MoveToTraveling.com to learn more about visiting and living in Spain. Please feel free to be in touch directly if I can be of any further help.

I wish you all the best on your journey and move to Spain! It is a fantastic place to live.

¡Un Abrazo!
