Mobile phone plans in Romania

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Staying connected while living in Romania remains a priority for expats, especially when choosing a mobile operator or to understand the local specificities of mobile plans.

Here some elements to consider:

How to choose your mobile operator in Romania?

What documents are required to subscribe to a mobile plan in Romania?

What criteria should you consider when choosing a plan matching your needs?

Are e-sim cards a suitable option for expats? What are the conditions?

What are your local tips for saving money on your mobile plan, especially for international calls (apps, operators, etc.) or mobile data?

Feel free to share your experiences and advice to choose your mobile plan as an expat in Romania.

Thank you for your contribution.

I had T-Mobile in the USA for many years, so I went with the European sister company - Telekom - in România. Unlimited minutes/data and I think an hour of international minutes. Less than 15 lei. I suggest chatting-up the clerk to be sure you are matching the best price on the market.

I seldom call international, but I use Skype for no-cost toll-free calls to the US and Messenger Voice for conversation.

Admittedly, I don't travel that much, but for me the coverage is good.Â
