Retaining a rental for nomad visa while still in US

annakatiejackson

In the USA in order to apply for a Nomad Visa and before meeting with the Portuguese consulate you must show a rental agreement but you cannot move until your Visa is excepted. So, we must remain in the USA paying our mortgage and paying for a rental in Portugal while we apply and wait for our Visa. This takes months before getting the meeting and the Visa. Seems expensive. Does anyone have any tips on how to make this as affordable as possible? What did others do?

Hi @annakatiejackson, Welcome.

What type of visa do you want: temporary (E8) or residence (more than 6 months) (D8/DR)?

In the case of digital nomads, I don't think it's required to rent a house for the D8. It certainly isn't for the E8. Many nomads live in coliving spaces or Airbnb. But if you contact this association, they may be able to give you more information about that:

It was a while ago and for different  visa but got an ongoing  "room" rental with landlord who registering the rental agreement officially then, later on, arrived and  moved so changed the address. Shirley this is what most people do?

I also have a similar question. I am looking to apply for the D8 visa next month in hopes of moving the start of next year if it all works out. What would be the best way to go about gaining accommodation now even though I wouldn't want to pay until I actually move?

I have applied for a NIF as well.
