best places for retired couple to rent with an expat community

vltflorida

USA retired couple looking to rent for at least a month in Portugal and explore long term locations.  We would like to be near/in a community of similar people while exploring our future options.

Hello, same here; from Florida.

Thank you

Welcome. Look at Cascais or Estoril or Lisbon. I would say that these locations have a largest and most active - year round - expat community in Portugal. And there is always something to do there (unlike the Algarve).

Hi, Welcome.

There are many US expats here on this forum, they may be able to reply & help you.

I suggest these 2 links. The first one has facebook groups of expats from the US that can also help you. In the second, there are personal experiences about visa applications. Many of them did the whole process by themselves without the need of lawyers. You can contact them by private message, maybe they can help you too.

But the best thing is to make a visit by choosing 2 or 3 locations already previously selected, and see where you feel best according to your interests and goals.

@vltflorida After visiting Porto and the Lisbon area, we chose the Lagoa area of the Algarve for the better weather - Nov to April.  We find there is lots to do; so many great restaurants, golf, cycling, tennis & Pickleball plus amazing hiking and beaches.  Also a large expat community here.  So depends what you are looking for.  The eastern Algarve is a little quieter.Â
