Moved to Malta September.

Red wine please?

Hello , we are from Southampton, England and my husband and I took early retirement and sold up and here we are living in Xemxija.
Bit of a slog getting residency card , getting a bank account and getting car on the road, but we can relax a bit now as sorted.
We have 3 kids, 2 in England and 1 in China. We moved out here with our 2 Shih Tzu's Talulah and Pandora.
I have joined a gym and go to yogacise , my hobbies are reading, films, walking the dogs and socialising.
I love Malta, the people, the weather, obviously and am enjoying the whole experience.
Our only socialising is a bar at Qawra which we have got to know a few people. I really would love to meet other brits, as I do miss all my friends back in Southampton.

It’s best to rent over here before buying, or just renting, in case you do not like living here, how well do you know Malta?

SimCityAT

:offtopic: i know, M & S is slowly pulling out of the clothing industry and going more into the food side. They have already started pulling out of Europe.

GozoMo

The food side is the better side.

Thank you!

Not home sick at all. Love it here. I had lots of friends/ aqaintances in Southampton. Here my circle is small. Sure it will grow over time. Went to Marks and Spencer in Sliema today for Christmas presents. It is more expensive, but good selection of men's, women's clothes and small food selection. Sliema has Matalan/ Next even Debenhams in The Point, which is the indoor mall. Don't miss England.

Try joining the Southampton football club supporters club in Qormi..... at Ta Cachu s bar

Check out the British Residents in Malta website. There is a branch in Mellieha.  They organise lots of social events, group walks, great bunch of people.  The Boulevard in Mellieha (near Valyou supermarket) is a lovely little bar with a friendly owner and great appetisers served with drinks. Closed on Tuesdays.

Hi I'm returning to Malta next week.  I have seen many discussions about Brits wanting to meet other Brits.  I am a Maltese and Canadian citizen.  I was in Malta for 2 years a few years ago and latterly made no friends.  Hopefully this trip will prove different.  I would like to meet anyone lol.  I imagine I did not go to right places but it Is difficult for a 65 year old woman to go to bars and ask people if they want to friends hahaha.  I have  no permanent place to stay at present, but looking at Qawra with agent.  Whats the name of the bar.  I would love to meet.

Hi.I am a Maltese and Russia citizen. What about such great mixture? Lol-!!!
Who met something same?

Kazanna

Hi.. we are a retired couple living in Naxxar. Yes, try BRA but we will see you for a coffee any time if you would like to meet up. Give yourself some time. There is plenty to do in Malta and we find everyone very friendly. Best wishes.

Lived in Malta for 2.5 years but now back in UK. If you want a great bar to meet Brits go to Munchies on Tourist St. in Qawra, ( near San Antonio hotel) great sport on tv, best New Years celebrations, great karaoke and quiz nights and loads of Brits, and David the owner is a darling. Also, as mentioned in the thread, join the Southampton supporters club - Victor and Jon who run it are great guys and go over to Soton regularly. They hold bbqs in the summer, and again, a good way to meet some Brits.

Try The Bell Pub & Restaurant - Qawra - British owners

Hi, BRA have several branches the one nearest to you would be the St Pauls Branch, which also has a library around the corner from the car museum. They have lots of actives so you can meet people with the same interests, the walking group starts in Xemxija. A few of us meet at the Red lion in the morning for a coffee, you would be welcome.

maryeg

Thank you so much.  When I get settled I will be in touch :)

Red wine please?

Sorry took so long to reply, not a football supporter, husband supports Portsmouth too? Thank you for your reply though, very kind.

Red wine please?

Sorry took so long to reply, not a football supporter and not a great fan of face book. Know I should use it more. Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. Very kind.

Red wine please?

Thank you for your message. That's very interesting, will check it out. Shop weekly at Valyou too. Kind of you to reply. Cheers

Red wine please?

Thank you for your reply, you are so right it is not easy. A man can walk in a bar on his own, no one takes any notice. When you are settled, coffee and cake would be lovely. Let me know how it goes?

Red wine please?

Thank you for your reply, may well take you up on that. You are right i need to give it time. The Maltese are friendly and there are lots of people I see to say hello to . Happy having friends of all nationalities, just miss friends that I met up with for lunch or shopping etc.. . Love it here though!

Red wine please?

Thank you for your reply, will look for munchies bar, haven't seen it near San Antonio . Not a football supporter I'm afraid. Kind of you to let me know. Cheers.

Red wine please?

Thank you very much for your reply. Will check it out. Funnily enough , before we moved here a lady told us about library, know the red lion and car museum, must find this library ha ha.

Fusspot

Hi, to get to the library turn left at car museum then take first right and near the end of that road, will have flag flying when open, they are open 10am till noon Tuesday to Friday.
Red lion closed at the moment as on their hols so have decamped to central perk !

Johnto123
