part time self employment

Mkinga

Hi Everyone, I am looking for information about the costs of part time self employment. How much is social security? How much is the tax? My husband has full time employment, so my social security is also covered by this but I don't know if I have to pay more if I become self employed. Any help is most appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know what the difference is really. I started to apply for self-employment status and at ETC (labour office ) they asked if I want to be full-time or part-time. So for now, I am in the process of searching for information about all this, and also the costs of it.

afaik, if you are not working yourself and also not "registered for work" at ETC you are also not insured with your spouse.
registration as self-employed is free in most sectors, difference between full time and part time self employed is the tax you have to pay ... in case of part-time self employment income tax is only 15% as long as you are also full-time employed (and thus paying tax and NI).

As far as I know she is covered if her husband is working and paying.

If I may ask a few questions about my own case : what's called "part time self employment" in this case ?  I will be self employed once settled (and that will be my only job) but it won't take many hours, at least the first months, and won't bring very much money either. That will be enough for me to live and eat, but what about social insurance ? is there a minimum amount of working hours and/or taxes to claim public health insurance ? (I'm not sure that I'm using the right words, my english still needs a lot of improvements :) )

(don't hesitate to tell me if I should better open my own thread instead of hijacking this one!)

I am on retirement pension aged 53 I have an opportunity in a month or so to start doing internet freelance work. I would like to register it as self employed. my income which will vary will go direct into my BOV account. I assume I show them mini statements showing the money going in and pay NI of 15% on that? tax will depend if I exceed €8500 per annum. is that correct? my pension income is covered by double taxation regulations, taxable in the UK. the RHA doesn't cover chronic conditions but NI payments would. so that is why I am looking at doing it. any advice much appreciated

Is registration still free for self employment for the sector of services? I need to apply for self employment as TCN, and I am still gathering all info.....

As a TCN you are not allowed to work as self-employed - whether part or full-time does not make a difference.
