We have been on Gozo for six weeks and actually had the interview for the residency cards last week and also submitted our S1 form together with the temporary residence number to the Health Entitlement Office, everything went well. Can anyone advise me how long it takes to obtain the permanent card as Areeva does not accept the A4 paper our temporary number was issued. Also the council cannot now issue a pensioners travel card as the digits are different to the old system, wow you have to have a lot of patience, but we still keep on smiling

Time seems to differ a lot. We received our e-cards after exact 4 weeks, but others have been waiting in vain for 8 weeks. The new card also is valid as the "Karte Anzjan" I believe that is what you meant by pensioners travel card? On the back it has the old ID number and a 60+ mark. I also found out that GO cannot handle the new number, but instead will use the old number.

I thought the A4 receipt had the same (A)lien number as always - thus it would be same number of digits.

Yes it has the old number. The new number is displayed for the first time on the new e-ID cards. Nobody seems to be able though to use that new number.

OK so this morning I walked into 172 Melita street to get my new ID and stepped in unmarked wet cement on the way in...   but that's another story.

At the counter were 3 Maltese guys and a ton of applications behind them, It's a good reminder of how busy they appear to be or how inefficient they are Im not sure which...   back to the point...

Got in the office The guy behind the counter Grunted at me while talking to his co-worker, I handed him the receipt of application, he came back with 2 documents for me to sign (again pointing at the signature lines while talking to his friend) I signed the doc and walked out with the new id card...  In/Out 5 minutes.

Customer service is in no way a priority.

New ID card details:

Front:

Residence Document number MT123456
name
valid through date (5 years for me)
place of issue
remarks (family member of EU)

Back:

chip
date and place of birth
nationality
address
sex
very tiny old ID card number off to the right

Does NOT say anything about "not valid for travel" like the old ID cards.

That's all folks, Good luck

no, your E-ID is different, and is something a Maltese citizen can apply for as well. Its a login for accessing govt sites and nothing to do with residency docs

"valid through date (5 years for me)"

Toon

what exactly does that mean

Toon

5 yrs validity what about the years we have been here before all this palaver.... are they lost for ever then

Hi, not sure whether my question came through on forum but forgive if repeating myself. Has anyone who received the actual card, how long did it take after the temporary paper was issued. Are areeva supposed to recognize the temporary paper for reduced fares.... we are new to Gozo so haven't got the old cards...

georgeingozo

"Has anyone who received the actual card, how long did it take after the temporary paper was issued. " first few took about 4 weeks, now taking months

"re areeva supposed to recognize the temporary paper for reduced fares" yes

"we are new to Gozo so haven't got the old cards..." the old cards have to be handed over at the appointment anyway (although many are taking copies and showing that on the buses)

me3512

I've seen this depend on the driver as well... I have seen some accept and some reject them.... I just wonder if these drivers have seen the new ID cards...

me3512

All I have been hearing Rumors that all new applicants need to apply by mail...   Can anyone confirm ?

EU can apply by mail (sending in the forms and docs), or just turn up and hope to be seen. Non-EU have to go in person

biddy

We had an appointment for 8.45 this morning. Got there 1 hr early and found the passages full of hopefulls. Were called at the appointed time - didn't have copy of SHENGEN VISA - not requested please note!! Handed in copy then waited 5 hours for the receipt of permanent residence permit. Computers were down but no one told the people waiting. Eventually those with IDs had IDs returned and told to collect receipts next week. As a spouse of an EU citizen, and first time applicant, my receipt was eventually processed at 14.30 - they did apologise!! Other TCNs eg Russians/Ukranians were left waiting, some having been there yesterday when camera not working!! There are NO signs to direct applicants; no one wants to speak to you or give you information; they are stressed, terse and unhelpful. Typical beaurocracy. Apparently they get paid for TCN and not EU applications and therefore process the former first!!!

Hi Biddy

Are you implying that you didn't have a valid Visa then? I am asking because my wife will be going through the same hoops.

Thanks
Meddie

Toon

knowing Biddy i would think they definitely will have one - just that the DEPT didnt ask for it on the peperwork application forms.

Toon

my supposed extended ID card was refused at the HSBC bank this morning - had to use my res cert.....

biddy

Toon, Yes I have a Schengen visa but no copy as not in list of requirements. Made a copy around the corner and handed in without having to rejoin the queue. Now on track!!

Toon

Its frustrating because the EU ombudsman has replied to my complaint saying that he can not take the complaint further because I have not complained to the department first!!!
How can you complain when there is no response to any communication and they change departments midstream, ahhhh.
