Hi,
well, good Areas would be:
Duesseldorf-Oberkassel
Loerick
Heerdt
Golzheim
However, I don't think the budget would work for those areas. Duesseldorf has become very expensive over the last couple of years and you can calculate around 900 - 1000 Euro without heating for 70 - 90 square metres.
You could try Gerresheim, Pempelfort, Bilk (around Friedrichstadt) or look outside of Duesseldorf, like Ratingen, Meerbusch, Neuss, etc.
Good luck!

We have lived here for 6 months now ,with 3 small kids.
Houses in Dusseldorf and apartments are very expensive .
Someone mention Meerbusch as a cheaper destination ....NOOOOOO we live here in Meerbusch and it is crazy expensive and houses are old ,you dont get what you pay for ,it is one if not the most expensive area to live .

I will recommend you
Neusse there are very nice family oriented areas .
Kaarst.
are you planinng on sending your kid to an international school ?
There is a really good one ISR (it is ni Neusse we are really happy there ,the campus is fantastic )
good luck
