Welcome Mandy,

Owning a house in France does not grant you unlimited stay; non-EU citizens must still follow visa rules. You can stay for up to 90 days within any 180 days as a tourist. For stays longer than 90 days, you must apply for a in advance, and then a residence permit from the local authorities (préfecture) after you arrive.

For non-EU citizens

  1. Short stays: You can visit your property for up to 90 days in 180 days without a visa. You must monitor your entry and exit dates to stay within this limit; overstays could lead to a possibility of fines or being banned from entering the  Schengen Area for an amount of time.

  1. : If you plan to stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for a long-stay visa () before you travel. This visa is typically valid for up to one year and allows travel within the Schengen Area.

  1. Extending your stay: After arriving with the long-stay visa, you must apply for a residence permit at the local préfecture to stay longer than the visa's validity period.
