Long-term study/research visa still processing after almost 60 days

Ryanka Edila

Hi all,

I applied for a Czech long-term visa (study/research) about 2 months ago. The official processing time is 60 days, and now I’m already close to that limit but still no decision.

Has anyone here experienced getting their visa exactly on the last day (day 59/60) or even later? If yes, how long did it take in your case?

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience.

I would contact them and ask why it is taking so long.

Thanks for your reply.

I already contacted the embassy, but they said there is no update yet from the MOI. I also tried emailing the MOI visa department, and their response was just that the application is still being processed.

To be honest, I’m getting a bit stressed because my research timeline has already been planned with my professor there, and also my accommodation arrangements are affected. :)

Hey!

We have been working in Czech immigration for 13 years and if there is one thing we can say is that the MOI does not care about legal deadlines.

The fact that the law says that they have to make decision within 60 days does not mean they will.

In real life, it can be as fast as 10-14 days and as slow as months and months.

Once they exceed the legal timeline though, you can take some steps. See for example here: [link moderated]

Also keep in mind that Embassies do not make decisions, they always send all the documents physically to the Czech Republic so often first 21-30 days after submission, your documents are just traveling to CZE and no one is working your case.

Let's hope you'll be approved soon :)

And let us know if you need help with the mandatory health insurance - we work with all insurance companies on the market so we'll be happy to get it for you :)

That does not really work in Czech immigration :D

Thanks a lot for the insight!!

But talking about the timeline,  just to share, I submitted my application on 6 August 2025.

I noticed that the reference numbers include the submission date, so it’s quite easy for me to check other cases by changing the digits. When I checked, the case submitted on 1 August was already approved two weeks ago. Surprisingly, even the one submitted on 20 August at the same embassy as mine was already approved last week.

This honestly makes me even more overthinking  ;)

@Ryanka Edila

Yeah, you should not overthink the Czech Immigration, it is mostly random :D

The thing is that all the decisions are made by different people. One might be efficient and more open to approvals, another might be more strict and/or less efficient, another person might get sick or go for holidays (which means that during that time no one is working on your applications).

It is pretty common that people who apply at the same Embassy on the same day get approved in completely different times :/
