Health insurance

Kevin Thompson

I’m having a ‘thick’ day, not helped by an insurance company giving me confusing information.

I’m trying to get quotes for health insurance ready for residency application and subsequent move to Cyprus,

we are not yet old enough to get GESY and we have pre existing conditions. For example I have a pacemaker which needs regular checkups. We also both have medications for existing conditions.

Can we get pre existing conditions covered or do we have to just pay extra if we need anything related to an existing condition?

how do we get our regular prescriptions renewed?

sorry if this has been covered before, but as mentioned earlier insurance company is. It help8ng,

When we moved, we told our UK GP that we were planning to holiday overseas for the winter, and got a 6 month prescription supply.

That took a lot of pressure off us, as we didn't have to worry about medication for a few months.

Not the answer to your question, but maybe something for you to consider?

Hi

We used abbygate who sorted out insurance for residency.  I had pre conditions and meds. The premium was not bad at all and most meds can be bought from your local pharmacy without prescription.  (Not anti biotics though  i think) not badly priced or half the price from the dark side! There is a price list on line somewhere.

Good luck...

Didn't you have an EHIC or GHIC?

@sp0758

Did they cover you for your existing conditions?

Meds are mostly over the counter but you pay. Most are not expensive. Doctors are easy to see but you pay. I recommend local companies for the health insurance as the are way cheaper than the UK ones. If you only want immigration cover it will not be much. I opted for that as full cover pushed the price up and then there were excesses and things not covered.

Google insurance brokers in Cyprus and you will find plenty. Call them as they are all English speaking.

Good luck

I believe they are for emergency cover, not routine but i could be wrong.

But some countries you can get away with it while you are resident.

That is true and people wonder why the UK NHS is in a mess. Plenty of brit chancers taking the pee with that. But then foreign health services know they can also get away with charging the UK NHS when they know the person being treated is resident and should not be using EHIC/GHIC... ..Ive known a few cases where a person was asked for their residency permit and was offered treatment at a price they couldn't afford ... On making that known They were asked to if they had the EHIC GHIC and as a result of saying yes they got their treatment no charge to the person but costs charged to UKNHS
