Visa documents. Driving me mad!

susangoldsworthy5

Hi all, hope you don't mind me asking some simple questions on the visa. Just spent the last 90 minutes on the internet trying to find out the documentation needed. I actually know what I need, Criminal check, marriage licence, bank account ect the bit that I don't get is the "Apostille"  If the Criminal check is being done by the UK Gov agency at a cost of £68 each why do I need to pay another £82 for it to be "Apostilled"  Also while googling the visa comes up as a Yellow slip or a category F or a long term visa. Which is correct please.

We are nearing the finish line, fly in May, and I must say this site has been a God send.

Thank you all

The reason why all documents have to be apostilled is that, no matter how "official" it may look, you can't expect foreign governments to know the difference between a genuine document and a good fake copy, whereas the apostille mark is internationally recognised.

That's correct.

It's a a pain, but it is correct.

Most of us, regardless of country, end up having to do it.

In case you don't have it

Good luck with your move.

It generally gets easier once you're over the initial messing around.

One piece of advice.

Scan and keep every document you ever get, even if you are supposed to hand it in.

That worked well for me when I applied for Indonesian citizenship- I prepared two folders for  every department. One original docs (or scans for docs I had already handed in - mark them as such), and a second with a full set of photocopies.

Over here you visit a set of desks, each with 2 representatives from each department. I was the only one with everything, and a set of copies for them to keep.

The police were especially happy when I produced a police certificate to say I had no records on the UK PNC.

Get one of those as well, even if nobody asks for it. It might just be handy - Mine was.

Best advice ...take everything you can think of or been advised to have... better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it......

Keep the questions coming

Good luck

I think that they'll only accept an ACRO police check document that's less then 6 months old, so don't apply for it too early - but still allow enough time to get it and get it apostilled!

So how can they tell that the "Apostille mark" isn't a forgery as well then and are other countries then just supposed to accept those documents without further validation?
