Taking a car back to UK which is on Bulgarian plates

paxosstu

Hi everyone, great forum.

I have a company in Bulgaria with a Toyota registered on BG plates (it used to be English plates)

Can anyone give any advice on taking that car back to UK in October on BG plates & then re registering it in UK. I know the procedure for the UK bit its very straightforward but not sure what I need to do in order to cancel the BG plates etc once I've re-registered it in UK. Obviously I cant do it before I go as need those plates to drive the car back to UK.

Any qualified advice would be most welcome.

Thanks

If I was going to do this, I would have a notorized English copy of the Bulgarian documents, tax, test, insurance etc. Before I'd start.

Heading towards BG, you notify HMRC that you are exporting the vehicle, I'd check to see if BG has a similar set up.

Good luck.

Actually, all you need to do is sell the car to yourself. Then you can drive it to the UK and reregister it there.

Or you can first drive the car to the UK and buy it afterwards, if you can arrange this.

In both cases you will have to deregister the car form Bulgaria and return the numbering plates.

Hello,

I'd like to buy a camper in Sofia, which is on bulagrian plates. May I ask you about the formalities of having an export plate, insurance etc. to drive it back to Hungary? Also, is there a way to check if the seller is legit?

Thanks for taking time to answer!
