A card = Useless

umairsaeed01

So I have come up to a conclusion that the Temporary A card is the most useless one in Belgium

1) Cant apply for car loan

2) Cant apply for cash loan

3) Cant apply for Housing loan

4) Cant apply for credit card (I got rejected twice from ING even though my job contract is unlimited and salary is well above the average monthly wage in Brussels)

5) Cant apply for a lease (automotive)

So if your employer is not offering you a car or credit card then you are stuck in Belgium (I got lucky in this case). Its like you are bounded for 3 years with a certain employer and basically cant do anything. I have lived in the middle east and it was never that difficult atleast in case of credit cards or car loans.

Did anyone else face the same issues?

Means of A card teoraticallly and in practice : working and residence permission.

This makes the A card suitable for its purpose.

Of course bescause it is not suitable for the purposes you mentioned this doesn't mean A card is useless.

When people are coming to work in Belgium they most probably aware of purpose of the card and usage range.

It might not have anything to do with the card, but that you need to have a good credit score, meaning that you will have to be in the country working for a number of years before you can get a loan.

Did you ask for the reason at the bank why you were declined?

harshtayal13

This is incorrect.

I had an A card for the past 5 years and was able to get a house loan and offered a personal loan from BNP in my first year. Had a credit card from BNP and had a car lease from the company under my name.

A friend of mine also took house loan on A card. You need to check with different banks. They may also consider your earnings in contrast with the loan you are asking.

LegendaryV

You can check with kbc bank.

you can get car loan, home loan easily on A card.

I got all you said with A card  but ING is uselles

I do not know about the rest but for the credit card check multiple banks, I would suggest check even every bank you can find because there are definitely some institutions that offer one to people with A card. Brussels airlines Amex was one of them in the past although it is expensive. ING is definitely not the most friendly

One of my friend got 30k personal loan from ing bank.

As you can see circumstances could change.

So please do not spread non precise information here

Where do you get these bankers? XD

With an A card even IKEA wont give you the Ikea Family loan...

But you understand that banks consider multiple factors before giving loans to someone. Your history, savings, salary, who your employer is etc.. It is not only type of your card (residency what matters).

I personally got bank loan with A card to buy a house.

Exactly 💯

Good for you guys, That's not what my banker said, it was ING. Maybe because my A cards were for only one year..I dont know..Maybe being an non-EU national with a A card is a problem too..

Hi People,

Car and cash loan are not common also among Belgians and it is not easy.

What if you crash or car gets stolen week after? Are you still going to continue paying for the next 8 years?

Same for cash loans, what if you lose your job?

So there is not a lot backing for the banks, as your residence permit is tied to employer. I'd recommend to settle and build some saving and in 5 years you can do so.

My 2 cents on this topic is the fact that ING Bank, will make you hate, or using a superlative; Ultimately Detest the fact that you are an "A Card" holder... Change your bank to any bank other than ING.

You'd be surprised, the smallest of banks could approve a loan to you on an "A Card".

In a Nutshell,  an "A Card" though limited, is not that bad, it boils down to the bank of which you are requesting the loan from.

@Raumdeuter

As an expat, generally you pick the first "big" bank nextdoor, that's I picked ING 6 years ago,

Are there any better alternatives here in Belgium?

maharaji1984

@Liwane

I recommend KBC.

I choose them because they were offering fee free basic account and that's why i change from ING. But unfortunately free service ended and charging 24€ per year.

Raumdeuter

@Liwane

You are right, however the smaller banks from my experience tend to be more accommodating.

KBC is a much better loan friendly option for expats, however smaller banks like Crelan, Belfius or Argenta could surprise you by approving finance requests... and guess what... on an "A Card".

Moral of the story, if you have an "A Card", ING and loans don't belong in the same sentence.

umairsaeed01

I agree, when I came Belgium it was either ING or KBC for me - KBC rejected my application and were asking too many paper work and other things in my first week which I could not provide so I went for ING and they opened my account (which initially gave me a first positive impression about an "expat friendly" bank). But after spending almost two years with them I would say they are useless.
